Hi,
Really intrigued to know your favourite and least liked of our shortlist.....
Magnus (Gus)
Rupert (Ru)
Edward (Ned)
Barnaby (Boo)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SionnachRua · 29/05/2020 19:04

Edward is the nicest by a mile.
Difficult to pick the worst one between Rupert and Barnaby - both so drippy and poncey. I think Barnaby might be slightly worse.

Notajogger · 29/05/2020 19:01

Gus is an ok nickname but the rest aren't great, particularly Ru and Boo Hmm
Plus their nicknames will change over time and they might want to change them later on so you can't really force that.
Edward is the best of the ones you've got. Barnaby is not good at all.

EveryoneLoves09876 · 29/05/2020 18:54

Fave Rupert

Not keen on Barnaby

Quizeerascal · 29/05/2020 18:40

Favourite- Edward
Least favourite- Rupert

I love Gus as a nn for Angus or even Augustus but not so keen on Magnus

Pleasenodont · 29/05/2020 18:38

I love them all and my lovely DS is Edward so I’m obviously biased towards that but Barnaby and Rupert are on our boys name shortlist this time too! You have good taste Wink.

Not overly keen on Magnus, makes me think of worlds strongest man.

Mish85 · 29/05/2020 11:52

Order of fav...

Magnus
Rupert
Barnaby
Edward

Whatsyourflava · 29/05/2020 11:34

Favourite by a mile is Barnaby - love it

"Gus" sounds like Guff to me. Makes me think of a bad smell. Not a nice sound to that name

MilaRos · 29/05/2020 11:31

Favourite Barnaby
Least favourite Magnus

diddlediddle · 28/05/2020 23:23

Magnus & Edward are great.

Barnaby is ok.

Rupert awful.

Ninkanink · 28/05/2020 23:09

Actually I’m going to correct that - not actually very keen on Barnaby but it’s probably better than Edward and Rupert.

Ninkanink · 28/05/2020 23:08

I like Magnus but really can’t stand Gus.

Also like Barnaby but can’t stand Boo.

123Dancewithme · 28/05/2020 22:52

I love Magnus but dislike Gus. I prefer Max or Mags for short.

Not keen on Barnaby but I do like Barnabas.

monkeyonthetable · 28/05/2020 22:46

I love Magnus and Edward.

Don't like the other two.

In Scotland Ned means pleb so if you are near there you might want to use Ted or Eddie instead. (Though I like Ned)

BackforGood · 28/05/2020 22:45

I like Edward. (But I'd accept that the nicknames develop as they grow. What you call your squidgy baby, isn't necessarily what his schoolmates with call them)

I don't mind 'Gus', but really don't like Magnus

Rupert is awful, but I think Barnaby gives it a good run for it's money.

Merename · 28/05/2020 22:42

Love Magnus, not so fond of nn gus tho. Barnaby/boo - awful!

FawnDrench · 28/05/2020 22:41

Prefer Magnus
Least like Barnaby (and dislike "Boo" intensely)

pilates · 28/05/2020 22:40

Favourite - Edward
Worst - Rupert

zippyswife · 28/05/2020 22:40

We nearly went for Gus for ds3. It’s a cool name that could work well for an adult too. Boo however Hmm

Lavenderblues · 28/05/2020 22:40

I like them all apart from Edward.

But why are you pre planning nicknames? Those names are short and easy to say, especially Rupert and Magnus. Why shorten them?!

SebandAlice · 28/05/2020 22:38

Best: Magnus
Worst: Rupert

Beamur · 28/05/2020 22:37

Least liked Rupert.
Most, Barnaby but I'm afraid I'm going to join in with the horror at Boo as a nn. Edward is a good name too.
Magnus seems a bit wrong without some Scandi connection.
My DH's name has a few possible diminutives, the one his Mum always preferred and tried to use he disliked and refuses to use!

finallychangedmyusername · 28/05/2020 22:36

I really like all four names. Rupert possibly as favourite, although it's hard to pick.

Roseburn · 28/05/2020 22:36

Mansie is short for Magnus. (Gus is short for Angus.)

But why shorten such a lovely name as Magnus anyway? Although my Magnus has been called Mag by everyone for 20 years now .... so what do I know?

GiGi18 · 28/05/2020 22:34

Ned = Non Educated Delinquent in Scotland and is a very common term similar to Chav in England so would avoid and go for Ted.

TheRoyallingStones · 28/05/2020 22:33

Edward is my favourite and I really like Ned

Barnaby is my least favourite mainly because Boo is a ridiculous nickname for anything wider than immediate family to use in private
