Partners' bizarre opinions

Talking over baby names with OH.

According to him: Alice is "too posh" Confused - my dirt poor great grandma was Alice so that makes no sense to me!

Lorna and Hazel (which I really like and hoped he would too) are "too not posh" - wtaf?? Confused

Anyway, just wondering if other people's partners have similar odd opinions..?

And please note - this is intended to be LIGHT-HEARTED! To any parents of Alices/Lornas/Hazels - I think your children have really nice names and my partner is bonkers!

My ex vetoed my favourite ever name because he reckoned it belonged to a different ethnic origin and would look silly being used in our culture, like misappropriation or something. We are white British. The name was Eve. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Go figure.

We have a 5 syllable surname (not even double barrelled). Agreed short and simple was best as he hated his long first name and long surname and always moans about it not fitting on forms etc.

His offerings? Kimberley, ekaterina, horatio and zebedee HmmConfused

Common sense prevailed and we ended up with an emma.

I think we're all a bit irrational when it comes to baby names, because we tend to associate them in our head with the person we know or used to know with that name. They come to represent everyone with that name.

FWIW I agree with your partner that Alice is quite a posh name!

peperethecat · 28/05/2020 12:10

No I mean which ones does he think are just the right amount of posh?

What names are not too posh and not too not posh, according to your partner?

SpecialKakapo · 28/05/2020 11:57

@FizzyGreenWater they went over the birth registration rules in antenatal class so he knows where the power lies Wink

@MikeUniformMike not just contemplating - 31 weeks gone so a bit late to back out now Grin

Thankfully we ha e found a few names which are neither too posh/not posh/don't remind him of an annoying friend of his sister/character who ran the cafe in Home and Away (sadly Ailsa was ruled out for this reason Sad)

Think I remember your other thread!

The saving grace here is that you are not married, so just name your baby yourself :)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/05/2020 11:52

DH vetoed a name on our list because it was his mother's best friends granddaughters name, and thought it would be too confusing for them!

Are you seriously contemplating having children with this weirdo?
