What's people's thoughts on the name Avery for a boy?

I practically smell the birds when I hear Avery but that's only a stranger on the internet. If you like it go for it.

Ah mumsnet isn’t a fan but my DS is an Avery so I Iove it. Everyone says it’s a very cool name and he is complimented on it all the time. People say my son really suits it too, which is odd because you don’t hear it all the time but that’s the name I thought he suited best when I met him too - the two other names we’d decided on just weren’t him at all.
If you love it go for it who cares what anyone else thinks.
P.S. I’ve been doing my bit telling everyone it means Alfred...I don’t know of any girls called Alfred...

I love Avery but do think of it as a girls name. I'm aware but was originally a boy's name but I think it has gained such popularity in North America for girls that I am so used to it as a girls name. I lived there for a while so that's why. Really wanted to use it for DD but something else grabbed our attention.

I automatically thought it was a girls name but if I met a man with that name I wouldn't think it was feminine iykwim. I think if it were a more popular name given to girls I might think so but I like it

Don't like it at all, sorry. It says labels to me and reminds me of aviaries and ovaries.

However, it's way better on a boy than a girl.

I think it's a nice name, I prefer it for a girl but I know a few older and younger boys with the name

I really, really like Avery. Very stylish, no connotations for me but somehow familiar. Think Frederick works better as a middle name. Not keen on Marli, especially the spelling but as pp say could be a nickname.

I like Avery. I remember watching an episode of Pet Rescue when I was a kid, and there was a delightful elderly chap on there named Avery - he adopted a dog. Anyway, I remember loving the name. He was jolly posh, so I always think of it as a rather well to do name. Sorry, not keen on Marli, or Freddy. Frederick is lovely though.

I'm not keen. It sounds more like a surname (it is the name of one of the evil Death Eaters in Harry Potter) or possibly a girl's name.

I would assume Marli spelt with an I was a girl. I’d assume someone was deliberately trying to spell Marley more femininely. Marley spelt correctly is lovely. I also love Avery and would assume it was a boy if I heard someone shout it, but wouldn’t be surprised if it was a girl as it sounds very unisex.

Dd has a female friend called Avery so I think of it as a girls name.

Marli also seems quite feminine but not if spelt Marley for some reason.

Nothing wrong with unisex names though if you like those ones.

I like it, but I like the old traditional but unused names, my boys called Tristan.

Not keen on marli as sounds incomplete if that makes sense, but could be a nickname for Marlon?

I like Avery. The only association I have with the name is Avery Brooks, and he's great.

I don't like Marli, mostly because of the spelling. Marley is fine. Do you like Marcel, Marco, Marcus, Marius?

I love Marni but have been completely shut down that that's a girls name! Seeing if there's any boys alternatives 🤣

I think a lot of people presume it's a girls name as it does sound similar to a lot of girls names used nowadays. But it deffo is for boys! (I checked) 🤣

Avery Berkel.

Never seen it used as a name but I would have assumed a girl too.
