Thoughts on Gregor?

For DS number three - what do you associate with this name?

Alternatives are Callum, Rory or Robin in that order of preference.

... I had forgotten how stressful I find name picking!

I have a Gregor who was very nearly a Hamish. Everyone loves his name and comments on it when they hear it (we live in SW England). I get the odd Gregory but that's easy to correct.

daisypond · 27/05/2020 21:10

I like it.

123Dancewithme · 27/05/2020 21:05

I like Gregor and Robin. Not keen on Callum and Rory.

ElectricTonight · 27/05/2020 21:05

Prefer Gregory

june2007 · 27/05/2020 21:02

I have known 1 child called Greggor, he was Scotish. But I do think of Mr Mcgreggor from Peter rabbit.

I think theres going to be be a Scotland/England divide on this
I’m Scottish and don’t like it.

Sexnotgender · 27/05/2020 20:59

I’m Scottish, I liked Struan but my husband wasn’t keen😏

Hamish
Angus
Kerr
Struan
Alasdair
Stewart

Staffori · 27/05/2020 20:22

I quite like Gregor. I love Callum and Rory. Dislike Robin.

badg3r · 27/05/2020 20:20

@Wbeezer what do you mean my Scotland England divide? In that it is more popular north of the border? I had wondered this. I probably won't be living in England again (if ever) for a very long time due to work... gosh, that's a strange thought!!

I know a teenage Gregor, I think theres going to be be a Scotland/England divide on this.

Amiable · 27/05/2020 19:55

I love Gregor - I had a lovely ex called it!

Somethingkindaoooo · 27/05/2020 19:41

Hmm

You say " Gregor", I think " Meerkat"

Blursula · 27/05/2020 19:34

Strongly dislike it, sorry. It’s very harsh sounding to my ears, probably due to the emphasis on EGG. It’s kind of like the sound I imagine a gigantic toad to make (you did ask!)

badg3r · 27/05/2020 19:19

@Edenember i now what you mean, there are it turns out many many names that I really like but that just can't imagine using in my own kids!

Joolsin · 27/05/2020 19:09

I love it - really strong sounding name and much nicer than Gregory (weird that the Y makes such a difference!). Don't like Greg, though!

Edenember · 27/05/2020 19:06

I’ve always liked Hamish and Alasdair.

Edenember · 27/05/2020 19:05

@badg3r I’m personally not overly keen for no reason other than it’s just not my taste (as an aside- wouldn’t like it being shortened to Greg which I think would happen) but positives are ... it’s easy to say and spell but not commonplace, cute on a little one, manly on a grown up. I’d think it was cool if I met one, just not for me personally. From your other ones I adore Rory. Gorgeous.

SnowdropFox · 27/05/2020 19:04

Love Gregor. As a pp said it's quite common here in scotland. Would be a contender if I ever have a ds!

ofwarren · 27/05/2020 19:01

The only Gregor I've heard of is Gregor Fisher who is Rab C Nesbit so it reminds me of him.

LotusClover · 27/05/2020 18:56

I love it, and think it's much better than your other three choices.

maddenlightfoot · 27/05/2020 18:54

I LOVE Gregor! Love, love, love. Really strong (much better than with a -y) and also love Greg. All girls here though so no chance to use it sadly. Also I'm not remotely Scottish 😊 !

badg3r · 27/05/2020 18:52

@sweet i can't use Lochlan unfortunately but I do really like it.

OP posts:
AKissAndASmile · 27/05/2020 18:51

It's awful, sorry.

sweetnosugar · 27/05/2020 18:49

As Scottish is your style how about Lachlan?
Rory is lovely by the way.

Boopear · 27/05/2020 18:48

Wasn't Gregor The Mountain in Game Of Thrones..? Mmm..
