From reading MN posts we seem to be drawn to posh, pretentious and snobby names (as called by users), I like them personally. Looking for some more suggestions for DS/DD please x

Trouble is if you give your kid a really pompous name and you are quite obviously a fairly normal person it just makes you look daft. Grin

My actual children's names are completely different but I love these names, I'll pm their names

victorianbombshelter · 25/05/2020 19:43

@Flappingflamingo what names did you go for for your DC? If you don't mind me asking of course and it doesn't out you! I just seem to be drawn to all these names 😍

victorianbombshelter · 25/05/2020 19:24

@flappingflamingo I really like Cuthbert! Montgomery, Magnus, Wilbur, Miles... so many!

Girls I love Ottilie, Felicity, Cressida, Beatrice!

Haven't run any by DH yet but anymore suggestions would be great, I'm writing up a list xx

@victorianbombshelter think for me the quintessential ones which spring to mind are Arabella for a girl and Tarquin / Quentin / Rupert for a boy. Cressida is cool. Apparently Xanthe is a posh name although I‘ve never had that association. Charmian, Hermione, Tabitha, Pippa, Romilly.

daisypond · 25/05/2020 16:38

Some of these names aren’t posh at all - most are ordinary, some are positively downmarket.

BlusteryLake · 25/05/2020 16:34

Anything ending in the "-uh" sound for girls - Araminta, Perdita etc. Anything ending in "-us" or "-o" for boys.

Clemmie83 · 25/05/2020 16:32

Rafferty is always a favourite of mine!

Flappingflamingo · 25/05/2020 16:31

Could be bertie for short!

Flappingflamingo · 25/05/2020 16:31

Which are your favourites so far???? Please please say cuthbert, I really want the world to have another one!!!! 😂 Sadly I won't be having anymore myself so please do it for me!!! 😍

victorianbombshelter · 25/05/2020 16:07

Wow love these! Keep them coming, thanks all xx

Pygmyseahorse · 25/05/2020 14:23

Rupert
Cuthbert
Hugo
Algernon
Archibald

All or most of these names can have some nice nicknames for babyhood or teen years if your child doesn't want to use the longer name too which is quite practical...

Flappingflamingo · 25/05/2020 12:22

I think the world needs another cuthbert... Remember him being a posh kids back on an 80's TV show

Her brother is Amadeus.

victorianbombshelter · 25/05/2020 08:26

Where are you finding the aristocratic birth lists? Are you referring to the telegraph birth announcements?

Some great suggestions so far, do keep them coming x

Lettice ?! Youve got to be joking

Why? It’s a very old and normal name, related to Letitia. I know one. Not common these days.

Lavenderblues · 25/05/2020 07:48

They tend to have quite normal names.

But the op doesn't want normal names. That's why she started a thread.

How about

Sebastian
Magnus

Antonia
Clarissa

bluemoon2468 · 24/05/2020 21:45

@Blackcountryexile Lettice?! Youve got to be joking 🙈

sweetnosugar · 24/05/2020 20:28
