Joseph Samuel or Samuel Joseph

Hello all, me and DH are due to have a son on 12th June (our first child) and in terms of names, we both really like the names Joseph/Joe and Samuel/Sam (Joseph slightly more) but we were wondering whether Joseph Samuel or Samuel Joseph flows/sounds better in your opinions? The surname will be Jackson btw, and any other good name suggestions you have feel free to state I am open to new alternatives too! Cheers Smile

Definitely Samuel Joseph. That was the chosen name for dd1.

Sam seems to be less common than Jo as a girls name here. And it sounds better with your same name but I'm not a fan of illiteration.

poppym12 · 27/05/2020 10:07

I prefer Samuel Joseph. Lovely names.

IndiaMay · 27/05/2020 10:03

They're really samey names so could go either way. Just remember they will inevitably end up as Sam or Joe.

drayco · 27/05/2020 08:22

Joseph first otherwise you've got a Sammy-Jo on your hands and that wind end well!

Christine1992 · 27/05/2020 08:11

@Whatsyourflava we are leaning more towards Samuel Joseph now, but still not entirely decided

Sam could be SJ! Jackson is a cool surname , I suppose any name might become "XJ" because of the J surname
Have you made a decision
I love both

Christine1992 · 26/05/2020 14:53

@averythinline thanks for sharing - but JJ would be something I would like to try and avoid tbh

I know both! The key really is whether you prefer Sam or Joe as a name. At the end of the day the middle name doesn't really matter.

averythinline · 25/05/2020 20:37

Joseph Samuel sounds better to me and I like Joseph Jackson ... and Jo could be JJ

averythinline · 25/05/2020 20:33

Joseph Samuel sounds better to me and I like Joseph Jackson

Aria20 · 25/05/2020 18:45

I like Nicholas but not a massive fan of Alexander/Alex or George. I think Samuel is still the nicest with Joseph as middle name

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/05/2020 12:54

They were both my choices but settled on Joseph when he was born as it just suited him Smile. I also know a Samuel Jackson!

Christine1992 · 25/05/2020 12:52

Some other suggestions we came up with today that we both like are Alex/Alexander and George

@finallychangedmyusername thanks - some of those suggestions are great - I like Nicholas most out of ones you’ve said. Also like Matthew as I think I said before but DH didn't because of Matts he has know

I have a Samuel so I'm biased, I think it's a great name so I'm going with Samuel Joseph. When I hear the name Joe Jackson I automatically think of my dad's all time favourite singer, not michael

Aria20 · 25/05/2020 11:49

Samuel Joseph flows better. Don't worry about Samuel L Jackson.... yours will be Samuel J Jackson lol or just Sam?

Also there are barely any Samantha/Sams around now more Jos (Joanne/Joanna/Josie/Josephine)

sel2223 · 25/05/2020 11:35

Both nice names but I prefer Samuel.

It's not girly at all....I know more female 'Jo's' than I do female 'Sam's'

ClementineTangerine · 25/05/2020 11:33

Both flow well but I prefer Sam to Joe

finallychangedmyusername · 25/05/2020 11:31

I really, really love both names, but sorry I personally wouldn't use either with your surname.

At a push though I think Joe Jackson is less well known than Samuel L Jackson...

Similar suggestions which avoid the famous namesakes:

Nathaniel Jackson
Gabriel Jackson
Ezekiel Jackson
Matthew Jackson
Elijah Jackson
Simon Jackson
Nicholas Jackson
Timothy Jackson
Lucas/Luke Jackson

Both lovely. I slightly prefer Joseph but both are nice

Christine1992 · 25/05/2020 09:31

Damn extremely close! Seems Joseph Samuel is slightly ahead by 1 right now if I counted correctly, but extremely tight

Biased here. I prefer Joseph Samuel.

peperethecat · 24/05/2020 21:56

I'd probably pick Joseph because of Samuel L Jackson, but they are both lovely names whichever way round you choose to put them.

SavageBeauty73 · 24/05/2020 20:54

I prefer Samuel Joseph but then I biased as my favourite brother is called Samuel.
