Apollo?

My little coronial has arrived and we still don’t have a name.

A few weeks ago the name Apollo popped into my head. What does everyone think? Would I be mad? Is it too far out? Our surname is very common and begins with S.

Ther is an Apollo in Corrie which gets called Paul

Terpsi · 24/05/2020 16:36

what about Phoebus - Apollo's alias

KatherineJaneway · 24/05/2020 14:27

Houston, we have a problem.

But that's my age.

LondonTowers · 24/05/2020 14:26

Love it, don't worry about the negative responses. People are quite tame on here.

Theres nothing really horrible the name can be associated with it, it is as old as the gods themselves and just a bit different....

bookmum08 · 24/05/2020 14:24

daisypond yes Luke is good. But when I read Damian as a patron Saint of medical I couldn't help but snort outloud.

NaturalCleaningParticles · 24/05/2020 14:13

I'm not a fan. Good dog name, though.

CiderWithRosy · 24/05/2020 14:09

I wouldn't for a first name. Quite nice for a second name.

rayoflightboy · 24/05/2020 14:07

I love it.Unusually enough but you can still spell it.

daisypond · 24/05/2020 14:05

There are some usable patron saints of medicine or pharmacy:
Luke
Damian
Cosmas maybe.

JasHarts · 24/05/2020 13:53

Fantastic name

bookmum08 · 24/05/2020 13:51

I like your thinking behind it Littlemiss - that's a nice thought. I looked up patron saints of doctors/medicine/healing etc but they all seem a bit odd (Camillus for example!).

SnowdropFox · 24/05/2020 13:37

I like it. I'd much rather meet a wee Apollo than another Jack or Max.

Littlemissdaredevil · 24/05/2020 13:29

The thinking behind it is that Apollo is the Greek god of healing and diseases

I expect it is the left over pregnancy hormones speaking to me!

If gwen Stefani and myleene klass cant pull it off then you probably cant.Sorry!

Apolloanddaphne · 24/05/2020 13:00

I love Apollo (check out my username!) but not as a name for a child.

bookmum08 · 24/05/2020 12:58

Makes me think of Apollo from Battlestar Galactica - Although that was his call sign. He was acting called Lee.
What is your thinking behind it?
The Mythology background or the Space Race (or Battlestar Galactica!). It feels like a name that needs a really good reason why you chose it.

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/05/2020 12:19

What's a coronial?

Pemba · 24/05/2020 12:17

No it's the (King of the?) Gods, too much to live up to!

Plus all those famous NASA space rockets, Apollo 13 etc. So it doesn't really seem like a personal name.

userabcname · 24/05/2020 12:06

I know a baby Apollo - he is very cute! Go for it!

Ilovecats14 · 24/05/2020 11:55

I love it. Love strong names.

Flappingflamingo · 24/05/2020 11:23

My first thought was 13, followed by myleene class, both would mean a definite no from me sorry

DwangelaForever · 24/05/2020 10:48

I think you have the same Surname as me and I think it does sound great but I just wouldnt!!! Mythology names are a no go for me. With such a classic name I think you can get away with a traditional or a different name but I love traditional with it.

Teacaketotty · 24/05/2020 10:43

No I don’t think an adult would appreciate that name - plus that’s what my cat is called Grin

SockYarn · 24/05/2020 10:41

11 or 13?

ClashCityRocker · 24/05/2020 10:41

Nicknames Appy, Polly or Pollo would put me off. Other than that I actually quite like it.
