Apollo?

My little coronial has arrived and we still don’t have a name.

A few weeks ago the name Apollo popped into my head. What does everyone think? Would I be mad? Is it too far out? Our surname is very common and begins with S.

I like it. I hope you used it. I do think a grownup Apollo would have to be very confident snd striking to pull it off though.

RoseMartha · 11/06/2020 12:54

No it reminds me of a spaceship and at a push a dogs name

Grufallosfriends · 11/06/2020 12:47

I know an Apollo in his 20s who is quite quiet and reserved. He suits it well imo. Great name.

MsTSwift · 11/06/2020 01:55

It could work on a particular type of child but if he’s quiet and low key it will be excruciating for him. You’ve no way of knowing. One of my two would have carried off an eccentric bonkers name the other really would not

Littlemissdaredevil · 11/06/2020 01:48

I wasn’t brave enough to put my foot down with DH in the end. Instead we went with a more traditional choice - Frederick. I’m still looking at him thinking is he a Freddie...

Apollo nickname Paul - it's fine.

It would be a shame to use Paul for such a cool name as Apollo! Love Apollo.

CaptainCallisto · 10/06/2020 16:45

I work in a primary school and there are currently two. One in Y4, one in EYFS. None of the kids bat an eye about it - it's just a name to them like Max or Oliver.

Grufallosfriends · 10/06/2020 16:18

Strong (not story) Blush

Grufallosfriends · 10/06/2020 16:17

Love Apollo! So story and memorable.

MamaGothel · 10/06/2020 14:42

I think it's a great name. Unusual but not made up, most people will know how to spell it, and it feels fresh and cool. I say go for it.

doorbellring · 10/06/2020 14:38

It's sad a lot of people don't like it or think it requires a lot of bravery to use it on a child.

I guess it depends on where you're from but Greek names are very common where I'm from (Central America). Think Apollo, Achilles, Caesar, Ulises, etc. I even know an Aristoteles and for some reason we don't really bat an eyelid at those names but I do suppose it has a lot to do with where you're based geographically.

doorbellring · 10/06/2020 14:33

I know someone named Apollo (mid 50s). It suits him quite well and I really couldn't picture him being called something else. He goes by Apollo all the time and doesn't have any nicknames. I really like it

123Dancewithme · 10/06/2020 14:22

Boris Johnson has a Theodore Apollo.

Grufallosfriends · 10/06/2020 13:48

Apollo is a great strong name. Great meaning too.

Especially with a common surname. Much more memorable!

CaspianSeaDog · 10/06/2020 02:56

Apollo nickname Paul - it's fine. If you love it go for it

MagpieWife · 10/06/2020 02:49

I like it... but didn't Apollo famously inflict a number of plagues on the Greeks, in the Iliad? Not sure that's what I'd be going for right now...

EuphieKat · 10/06/2020 02:32

I know someone who has recently had an Apollo!

BabyDust13 · 09/06/2020 17:47

I love it my oh vetoed it 😢

lemonandlimes2 · 09/06/2020 15:47

Go for it. All the people saying it's too much are most likely old, boring and probably name their children "Jess" and "libby". As if there arnt enough of those around

namechanging2020 · 09/06/2020 15:45

I love it! It is on my list for a boy.

Ellmau · 25/05/2020 18:00

Maybe as a middle name?

user1493494961 · 24/05/2020 21:29

Definitely hormones, don't do it.

weusedtobehot · 24/05/2020 17:06

My dad has been treated by a doctor called Apollonius Kwok. Everyone called him Apollo. Wonderful name

FartnissEverbeans · 24/05/2020 16:47

This is what the boys in my Year 10 class tried to persuade me to use for my son Grin

They very nearly managed! It’s such a cool name

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 24/05/2020 16:46

I would have thought that 13 would be his nickname.
