DD2 is due in a few weeks. DD1 has a Gaelic/Irish name (we are Scottish). Surname will start with Mc. We’re down to Martha or Evelyn, which does everyone prefer? Middle name will likely be violet after a family member.

Evelyn

Evelyn

Of the 2 I prefer Evelyn but I even more prefer Evelyne (eevlyn rather than ehvlyn). Not keen on Martha but it does get lots of love on here and don’t think it will be as common or at least not as common as nicknames and diminutives of Evelyn.

sibbys · 23/05/2020 15:08

Martha

Littleelffriend · 23/05/2020 14:58

Oh well seems like no one hates any of them! Thanks everyone

Evelyn is lovelier than Martha and I've never heard it pronounced with an R in it. It is pronounced Ev-eh-lyn to me. Never Eve-lyn.

I like Zara too!

KEG05 · 23/05/2020 13:57

Evelyn or Zara. I live in Scotland I’ve only ever heard it pronounced EV-lyn. C

twilightermummy · 23/05/2020 13:51

Martha x

LondonTowers · 23/05/2020 13:51

Thinking about it I really like Martha

LondonTowers · 23/05/2020 13:50

Both nice but the eve-lyn ever-lyn thing would get on my nerves

elfran · 23/05/2020 13:23

Martha! So lovely, perfect for any age. I have nothing against Evelyn (the name of one of my cousins, back when it was super unusual) but I just love Martha.

Whatsyourflava · 23/05/2020 13:11

Martha definitely ❤️Although Evelyn is lovely too
Martha is perfect though
No I don't think it will be shortened @Littleelffriend

Annebronte · 23/05/2020 13:05

Evelyn sounds elegant and beautiful. Martha, less so.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 23/05/2020 13:01

Martha, 100%

I’m not sure you’d hear Marfa if you’re in Scotland? I thought that was a very particular Accent to the South of England.

MikeUniformMike · 23/05/2020 13:00

Martha

DramaAlpaca · 23/05/2020 12:58

Evelyn or Zara for me, I think Martha is a bit drab.

I pronounce Evelyn EV-lyn. I might be wrong, but I think most people in Ireland and Scotland say it that way.

OneKeyAtATime · 23/05/2020 12:57

Martha for me

Stuckforthefourthtime · 23/05/2020 12:55

Every second baby girl born to any of my friends and family last year was called some variation on Evie. It's a lovely but so so so popular. I'd go with Martha.

Littleelffriend · 23/05/2020 12:53

Top not too

@lotus yes Clara was probably too but with the surname it’s a nono. DP doesn’t like Tara or Lara and we’re quite close to a cara

LotusClover · 23/05/2020 11:51

Evelyn by a country mile. I find Martha to be very old fashioned and I don't like how it sounds. I prefer the "ever-lyn" pronunciation though - I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is the more widely used pronunciation (and the nicest in my opinion).

Zara is lovely too. Have you considered Clara, Cara, Kara, Tara, Lara?

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 23/05/2020 11:49

Martha

123Dancewithme · 23/05/2020 11:49

Martha. I’m bored of all the Evie Eva Ava names.

TheSweetestHalleluja · 23/05/2020 11:49

Zara is lovely!

seriousandloyal · 23/05/2020 11:30

Evelyn is nicer
