@peperethecat isn't it as common as Evie though? It was my original favourite.

Ok have rated below with 1 as the worst, 10 best

3- Noellia
7 - Juliette
9 - Evalina (evah-leena) - I’ve seen this spelt Evelina looks prettier I think
5 - Elara
1- Hestia- old lady connotations
4 - Hera - only if rhymes with Sarah ?
2- Juniper - too trendy / 2020, Think it will age badly
10- Ginevra
8 - Elowen - never seen it, beautiful sound to it
6 - Maddalena but spelt with one D

WildCherryBlossom · 22/05/2020 15:18

Thea and Adriana are very pretty. They aren't really that widely used.

Whatsyourflava · 22/05/2020 15:18

Thea is really lovely!

How about Theodora or Dorothy if you want a slightly longer name?
Clementine nn Clemmie
Margaret nn Maggie

SleepingStandingUp · 22/05/2020 15:18
  1. Juliette - I like it. Good classic name.
  2. Elowen - really pretty
  3. Maddalena - I like and shortened version but think it might get mispronounced - it it lena or leena?
  4. Juniper - I like it. Different but def a nice name
  5. Evalina (evah-leena) - nice but reminds me of the hospital and if its shortened she'll be yet another Eva evie
  6. Ginevra - I right I liked it but the more I say it, the more I hear "do you never"
  7. Noellia - no, its just a bunch of sound
  8. Hestia - sounds quite harsh
  9. Hera - fine in context but not keen
10. Elar - sounds like you missed a bit
peperethecat · 22/05/2020 15:17

When you add in those other options, Elena is the best by a country mile.

EveryoneLoves09876 · 22/05/2020 15:17

@Marylou2 what did you choose in the end?

I don't mind. I'm starting to understand why dh keeps saying veto. 😂😂😂

OP posts:
formerbabe · 22/05/2020 15:16

Elara is really strange to say out loud...it doesn't roll off the tongue at all.

Noellia is a mouthful too...Noella would be better.

I think Juniper is going to get popular very fast...very trendy. I personally cringe at it.

Weallhavevalidopinions · 22/05/2020 15:16

Difficult to rate - I don't like any of them.

Names are very personal and so what one likes another might dislike

Marylou2 · 22/05/2020 15:15

@EveryoneLoves09876

I feel super mean! Hope you're OK. I loved Xanthe as a name when I was pregnant. DH thought it was hilarious. Still adore it 15 years later. Not DDs name though Smile

EveryoneLoves09876 · 22/05/2020 15:15

@MrsNoah2020 ok to Noellia - it's Greek but I get the picture 🤣

I used to have:
Georgiana
Thea
Elena (Elay-nuh)
Evanna
Adriana

But the mumsnet boards are littered with them so went off them all!

Noellia (sounds like a made-up African-American name)
Yeah, made up, unlike names in other cultures.

user495275 · 22/05/2020 15:10

I think what I don't like about them is that they are too fussy and frilly.

If you'd said Juliet, Noelle, Madeleine/Magdalena, Elena/Lara, Elowen, Juno, Evelyn, I'd like the list a lot more. But it seems like you're adding frilly bits for the sake of it, which isn't to my taste.

Exactly this. There are lovely names that are close to the names on your list, but the extra fancy-ness you've added ruins them.

WildCherryBlossom · 22/05/2020 15:10

Noellia 5
Juliette 8
Evalina (evah-leena) 6
Elara 7
Hestia 1
Hera 2
Juniper 9
Ginevra 10
Elowen 4
Maddalena 3

I really like Ginevra. I had an Italian friend named Ginevra years ago. Beautiful, warm, funny and kind.

MrsNoah2020 · 22/05/2020 15:09

Noellia (sounds like a made-up African-American name)

To me, it sounds like a late middle-aged Australian - I can just imagine Noellia's husband, Stu, yelling it down the aisle in Coles (Aussie equivalent of Tesco). Awful.

Haven't you got any less silly frilly names on your list, OP?

EveryoneLoves09876 · 22/05/2020 15:07

@peperethecat my name is quite unusual though and I've never had an issue with it. I've always quite liked being the only person with that name. It is from a different country though.

OP posts:
WildCherryBlossom · 22/05/2020 15:06

Oh dear - I did mine the wrong way round with 1 best, 10 worst sorry

peperethecat · 22/05/2020 15:04

Girls are hard as so many you hear everywhere.

The thing is, I can understand not wanting to choose a name that is super popular but I also think there is a reason why so many people call their daughters Lily and Evie but not any of these names. I think the key is to find something that isn't super popular but is also something that won't be a burden for your daughter as she goes through life.

WildCherryBlossom · 22/05/2020 15:04

Noellia 6
Juliette 3
Evalina (evah-leena) 5
Elara 4
Hestia 10
Hera 9
Juniper 2
Ginevra 1
Elowen 7
Maddalena 8

SparkyBlue · 22/05/2020 15:00

I have a Juliette so I am biased. We always get compliments on it. Strangely enough I did the book at school and absolutely hated it.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/05/2020 14:58

Noellia (sounds like a made-up African-American name)
Juliette - like but people will spell it Juliet
Evalina (evah-leena) - sounds line a children's hospital name
Elara - sounds made-up
Hestia - sounds like a plant name
Hera - she wasn't the nicest of Greek Gods was she?
Juniper - pretty but hippy
Ginevra - Sounds like Geneva
Elowen - Sounds like the name of a sprite or woodfolk (but quite pretty)
Maddalena - Name of a Spanish cake!

I only really like Juliet, Juniper and Elowen of those ten (sorry). Juliet is very pretty but if you're going to be different go the whole hog and opt for Elowen

SecondStarFromTheRight · 22/05/2020 14:57

The only 2 I like as I think they work well for a child and an adult are Juliette and Elara.
Juliette is safer, Elara a bit different.

formerbabe · 22/05/2020 14:57

They're all really close to being nice names but just don't quite sound right.

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 22/05/2020 14:55

Noellia - a bit too frilly for me, not a fan of the Noel names anyway.

Juliette- prefer Juliet but perfectly nice

Evalina (evah-leena)- children’s hospital and yet another Evie name

Elara- lovely but will be seen as part of the el trend eg Eloise, Elodie, Eleanor many of which are rapidly becoming very popular

Hestia- don’t like personally, a witch name but it’s ok

Hera-love

Juniper- perfectly nice

Ginevra - not a fan, don’t like the spelling although it’s correct and hate Ginny

Elowen- love but it again is on the El name trend

Madalena- fine but personally I prefer Magdalen and I’d worry about the nickname Mad

EveryoneLoves09876 · 22/05/2020 14:55

@Marylou2 I shop in both! Blush
