Girls names that cannot be shortened/nicknamed

SqidgeBum · 21/05/2020 17:13

I am looking for a list of girls names that wouldn't normally be shortened or automatically have a nickname. I know some people will just make up a nickname for her, but I just want her to be called what we name her as much as possible.

We already have a girl, Heather, so we like slightly older names, classic, not massively popular (so no top 10 names) or too modern.

Sorry. I know I am asking for a lot. DH says I am too fussy.

Wow. So many names! There are quite a few I like too (i am a teacher so finding a name I dont have negative associations with is difficult). I will have to suggest them to DH tonight. In typical dh fashion he will probably hate them all (ex teacher. Same issue). Naming a child is a big problem for us haha.

You'd be better off just picking a name you like and being firm about that version. People will find the strangest things to make a nickname from.

Choose a name thats already a diminutive like Ellie. Probably not what you want though!

Both my sons have names very rarely changed, but my dad still has pet names for them, he cant help himself!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 21/05/2020 18:18

I tried doing that. Grin DD shortened her name as a toddler and her best friend came up with a diminutive too.

Flappingflamingo · 21/05/2020 18:17

One of my daughters is called Niamh which can't be shortened, however her name gets lengthened instead, ie niamhy so anything can end up with a nickname. I like Amy, but somebody could end up calling her ames, I went to school with a Heath who was known as Heth. If you don't want a named shortened, tell people

blueskys72 · 21/05/2020 18:07

Plenty of those suggested can be shortened though!

Lucy - Luce
Felicity - Fliss
Claudia - Claud

Many people always look to shorten names even when it's not invited unfortunately.

I'm called Lara. Never been shortened by anyone. My parents had a nm for me unrelated to my name. Other names I can see being similar are:

Fay
May
Maya (pronounced My-a)
Hope
Joy
Anne or Anna
Rose
Rosa
Olive (possibly might get Ollie but the one I know is always Olive)
Clare
Kate or Katie

2tired2bewitty · 21/05/2020 17:37

Jane

Though, like a previous poster I have a Beatrice who generally prefers her full name to any shortening.
