Emerald - classy or trashy?

Looking for opinions please, we have our boys name selected but struggling to agree on a girls.
DH has suggested Emerald...I actually quite like it and could imagine the nn Eme/Emmy. It would also go with our surname which is only 3 letters.
We know people called Emma and Emily so they're out of the question.
What is everyone's thoughts on it? I've never met one so don't know how it would be perceived.
Many thanks!

Too similar in sound to haemorrhoid!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/05/2020 08:32

Sorry OP-first thing I thought was stripper.

You can pick anything you want but I think you/your DC will regret a name that carries such negative connotations-even if it is not by everyone it seems like it is by enough.

Blursula · 21/05/2020 08:29

I don’t think it actually makes a very nice sound and is a bit ugly and harsh sounding. Em-rold. Actually reminds me of Harold! Emma and Emmie are so much lovelier.

verybritishproblems · 21/05/2020 08:27

I love the name Ruby as it just sounds retro to me and to an extent Pearl too, but not so sure on Emerald, sorry ☺️

Keepyourginup · 21/05/2020 08:26

It's a beautiful name, go for it!

Singingatmidnight · 21/05/2020 08:26

The only one I can think of is Emerald Fennel, who's very posh (or at least always plays posh characters).

helpmum2003 · 21/05/2020 08:25

Trashy, sorry.

NiteFlights · 21/05/2020 08:25

I like it. it has a sort of ‘upmarket bling’ feel - Emerald Cunard style.

zeldapinwheel · 21/05/2020 08:24

Trashy.Makes me think stripper.

missmouse101 · 21/05/2020 08:22

I love it. Not trashy, quite elegant I say!

Honeybee85 · 21/05/2020 08:18

Bit more unusual sorry!

Honeybee85 · 21/05/2020 08:18

Not a fan of naming children after semi precious stones, sorry. Reminds me of names such as 'Diamond', 'Princess' or 'Chanella' or 'Diorette'. If you like something that sounds like Emmy or Emma, why not go for Emilie? French version of Emily so bit more usual. I also love Elodie which is along the same lines.

StormBaby · 21/05/2020 08:18

All the gemstone names scream trashy stripper I'm afraid. Jade, Ruby, Sapphire... Its only marginally better because its more unusual.

LilyE1234 · 21/05/2020 08:13

The only Emerald I’ve ever met was super posh. She was very pretty and was known as Emmie

Pollyputthepizzaon · 21/05/2020 08:12

Trashy

Francina670 · 21/05/2020 08:12

Depends how posh you are.

Screenwriter and posh person Emerald Fennel, it’s fine. If you’re not in the league could veer into dangerous territory.

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/05/2020 08:12

Perfect for a May baby

ElectricTonight · 21/05/2020 08:11

I love it.

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/05/2020 08:11

I like it

It’s not trashy it’s not classy, but it’s lovely

Kokeshi123 · 21/05/2020 08:08

I like it. Bold choice.

Ilovebanoffeepie · 21/05/2020 08:07

Not a fan over here! Sorry!

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/05/2020 08:07

I don’t mind it. It could be edgy but also could be trashy 😬

Amimissingsomethinghere · 21/05/2020 08:05

Sorry, trashy.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 21/05/2020 08:03

I picture a stripper.

pictish · 21/05/2020 08:02

Too much of a mouthful either way imo.
