To feel that you used up your favourite baby name with your first child

Hi all. I’m due with boy #2 at the end of August. Our nearly 3YO is called Arthur. I’ve had so many suggestions on names but I can’t shake the fact that I feel like I’ve already used up my favourite boys name. I know this is completely first world problems but I just knew what our son would be called from very early on. Approaching the final trimester and still clueless. Anyone in the same boat?

Frederick! Fred or Freddie for short.

Theodore, Hugo, Benedict, Gabriel, Ernest, Archibald, Alfred?

LiviLoggs · 22/05/2020 00:03

Love Lawrence or Laurence especially with the nickname laurrie or lorri but forms I don’t think it flows as well with buddy. I like Chester and Edmund/Edward but as a PP said - eddie buddy doesn’t flow but it really depends if you would say his nickname and middle name together because I wouldn’t but Edmund/Edward Buddy works well, as does a Chester Buddy.

Most of my family call him Bertie which we thought we would too but now I’m not so sure. My friends call him Albie which I don’t mind. We still call him Albert, maybe a nickname will show itself when we see a bit more of his personality (he’s still very small Smile )

Chefwifelife · 21/05/2020 10:49

@Wowcherisstalkingme my husbands favourite is Albert. Do you call him alby or Bert for short? Seems like we’re on similar themes with name ideas.

I have an Arthur and an Albert. The others on my list to go with Arthur were:
Edward
Charles
Percy
James
Michael
Harold

mylittleavalon · 21/05/2020 09:09

Ooooh glad you like Wilbur- I would use it but husband says no 🙄 also have a soft spot for Willoughby but might not flow with Buddy for you.

Chefwifelife · 21/05/2020 08:41

@ODFOx it would appear so Grin well I consider myself educated. I like Charles. My BIL didn’t have the best upbringing or the nicest family. We’ve become his family and he’s the type of guy that would give you the clothes off his back, throw himself in front of a bus for DC.

Buddy Holly fans eh? His real name was Charles. How about Charles Buddy?

Chefwifelife · 21/05/2020 07:05

@ODFOx I si you not, my BIL name is Buddy on his birth certificate. His sister is even holly. There is no way we’d swap out the middle name is BIL is very important to us for many ways.

What about another knight from the round table?

Tristan or Lucan? Percival?

Alfred
Frederick
Philip
George

whattodo2019 · 20/05/2020 23:08

I adore the names
Douglas
Ptolemy
Sholto

Skyla2005 · 20/05/2020 22:57

I know an Arthur and his little brother is Joshua if that any way helps !

skinnyhotchoc · 20/05/2020 22:44

Yes literally the same thing. I had one girls name I liked and used it for my dd. If this one is a girl I'm screwed because me and dh are coming up with precisely zilch. I don't like anything else!

Whatsyourflava · 20/05/2020 22:43

Oh and I love Laurence

Whatsyourflava · 20/05/2020 22:39

I think Edward or Wilfred are really lovely
If not, Stanley or Charles are great choices from your list!

LetItGoHome · 20/05/2020 22:25

If you can't use Wilfred now, how about Wilbur. I actually much prefer it and it's a little more under used I think. I know a little Wilbur and he is gorgeous.

ODFOx · 20/05/2020 22:22

Your BIL isn't registered Buddy: what's his real name? Buddy is never going to sit comfortably with an 'old man name'.
You've set yourself a virtually impossible task there OP!

ODFOx · 20/05/2020 22:16

I have friends who used the only 2 boys names they agreed on for DS1, then found out that they were having a bit again. After much soul searching they chose the same 2 names again in the opposite order: example Robert John then John Robert. It's actually very successful as the 2 names go together really well and no one uses middle names anyway!
Don't sweat it OP: pick names you like over names you think are appropriate or that fit well with other family names. It will work in spite of everything because they'll be brothers so it will just fit.

2020times · 20/05/2020 22:12

I love Winston.

Yes I used my favourite name I could think of at the time for DS but since then I remembered Amos which I love equally (but will be having no more children)

I also like Samual and Edison

GinghamStyle · 20/05/2020 22:10

Seth
Raymond - Ray
Joseph - Joe
Charles can be shortened to Chaz which I think would complement Buddy well if you call your Arthur Arty.
Wilbur Is the pig in Charlotte’s Web
Wilfred - Wilf is nice though
Richard

Careful with A names as his initials would be “A BJ”

MadameJosephine · 20/05/2020 22:06

Stanley is my favourite from your list. Arthur and Stan sound like brothers

I also really love Ernest and Edison

anxietrist · 20/05/2020 22:05

I know an Arthur with a little brother called Edward! They're a lovely family if that helps 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chefwifelife · 20/05/2020 22:01

I absolutely love Ned. I read that Eddard is the longer version of Ned as well but I thought people may think I’m an avid GOT fan 😂

Matthew is my cousin. Ex called Toby. Brother is Daniel. Dog called Oscar. Rupert is a friends DC.
