It's okay I prefer Holliday, I know one she goes by Holli.

BikeRunSki · 20/05/2020 07:45

No just awful, sorry. Try opening an online bank account with the country name Holland, it'll cause all sorts of confusion.

True, true. My middle name is a place name. We’ve recentjy remortgaged. No amount of documentation could convince the solicitor doing the paperwork that my middle name was not my surname, to the pony that she changed the Land Registry records (thus someone else also must have thought my middle name was my surname) and I’ve just had a massive fight to get my house registered back to me! This is not the first time something like this has happened.

I just watched Hollywood on Netflix, and Holland Taylor was in it. I thought she was terrific and what a great name she had. (Please ignore that she was also in Two and a half men).

DramaAlpaca · 20/05/2020 02:16

I was terrified of Hamble

Holliday is much nicer than Holland as a name.

CMMum88 · 20/05/2020 02:14

I really liked Holland for a boy but my DP said no.

JaneJeffer · 20/05/2020 02:08

Hope your surname isn't Oates.

usernamegenerator · 20/05/2020 01:09

Love it!

I have even considered it myself, absolute adore Holland Grace.

For people saying it's a really place name, just thought I'd let you know that America is a very popular name in some countries. My best friend in primary school was named America and there's even actress America Ferrera

Tell people you're changing your name to Holland and see what reaction you get.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 19/05/2020 21:22

Makes me think of Jules Holland

june2007 · 19/05/2020 21:19

Otherwise known as Netherlands?

mamasiz · 19/05/2020 21:16

Nope

AnneShirleysNewDress · 19/05/2020 21:12

I love it. Holland Taylor is fabulous.

whatausername · 19/05/2020 21:05

It's less quirky & interesting and more...odd. Bad odd. What else is/was on your list? Maybe we could give you some more ideas?

iklboo · 19/05/2020 20:11

There was a dolly on Playschool (1960s tv) called Hamble.

Hamble was possessed, I swear.

iklboo · 19/05/2020 20:10

It's a maker of pies & steak puddings in the north.

Beamur · 19/05/2020 19:59

It's an odd choice for a name full stop.
Sorry.

LotusClover · 19/05/2020 19:58

@everpessimistic 99% of the time she will just go by Holland. You could pick the most feminine middle name you can think of, but it won't make much difference - she'll still have an (in my opinion) masculine name. But don't let that put you off if it doesn't bother you.

NameChange84 · 19/05/2020 19:57

No. It’s awful.

LittleRa · 19/05/2020 19:54

@everpessimistic Hollywood is on my list Smile

Wheresthebiffer2 · 19/05/2020 17:53

Not a fan, sorry.

everpessimistic · 19/05/2020 15:51

@LittleRa yes I love Holland Taylor! And seeing her on Hollywood (amazing show on Netflix would recommend) really makes me want to use it as a name for baby girl.
I’d also use the name Grace as a middle name Holland Grace so it’s not feminine!
It is such a divisive name that I’m now not sure ive got the confidence!

It's obviously a country name. Whereas you might get away with something like India, this is so blatantly a country name as it ends in 'land'.

So not really suitable as a given name for boy or girl. Yes I see that it has been done in the USA, but some Americans have the weirdest naming habits, not anything to emulate.

MintyMurray17 · 19/05/2020 13:58

I like it, for a boy or a girl. I also really like the name Holliday.

theconstantinoplegardener · 19/05/2020 11:13

The first thing I thought of was those tail gate lifts you see on the back of HGVs, although I think that's Dhollandia. Sorry OP! I do love Holly though.
