Thank you again for your comments, much appreciated.

Love it too.

DoctorBambino · 19/05/2020 10:10

I one taught a very little Mary, she was the sweetest kid. I love it.

MsTSwift · 19/05/2020 07:00

Gorgeous. Far from dull refreshing in a sea of Amelia Eve Isabels Olivias - now those are dull. Mary very rare never met a young one dd2 middle name after a fab great aunt

I’m not a fan (but like Marianne for the song, if that’s any help).

I find it plain and remember the recent thread on here in which it transpired that “Mary” is a slang term for vagina in some areas (Liverpool possibly? not sure).

It's unusual enough to be quite a bold choice these days.

I like it.

pilates · 19/05/2020 06:21

Lavenderlove, just out of interest where do you live as never heard that before

123Dancewithme · 18/05/2020 23:58

Lovely, it would be refreshing nowadays.

I would put it with a more unusual middle name.

lavenderlove · 18/05/2020 23:37

I like the sound of it but it's used as a nickname for a vagina where I'm from so that's all I can think of!

SeaMonkey20 · 18/05/2020 23:31

No I don't like it. Sorry!

Ihaveamind · 18/05/2020 23:22

I love it. I am Irish Catholic and all the Marys in my family are/were strong funny decent women.

Banaltra · 18/05/2020 23:19

Love love love it

GinghamStyle · 18/05/2020 23:16

I’d planned to use it as baby’s middle name if I had a girl - but I had a boy.

I think as a first name, I prefer Maria

LadyGAgain · 18/05/2020 23:06

I absolutely love it DD would have had it as her name but we couldn't for other reasons. It's her middle name. It's beautiful and definitely due a revival!

35andThriving · 18/05/2020 23:01

First thoughts are of the nativity story, Mary Poppins and Mrs Brown from Paddington.

I think it's nice and fairly timeless.

PrincessLouis · 18/05/2020 22:38

Love it - classic and elegant

Carouselfish · 18/05/2020 22:08

I WANT to like it. Reasons I don't: it means bitter, about 90% of the women's gravestones in our local church are Marys so it sort of becomes a non-name at that point, blank like John or James, it gets shortened by people to Mare.
Reasons I do: it's very wholesome sounding. Ageless, it works for a little girl and a woman. Crosses the class divide easily.

Sandfield20 · 18/05/2020 20:34

40's

Sandfield20 · 18/05/2020 20:33

In my 40 and my name is Mary. Honestly I hate it. Often wished I had a different name.

june2007 · 18/05/2020 20:29

A classic, It,s also quite refreshing.

BeltaneBride · 18/05/2020 20:25

Lovely!!

TheTroutofNoCraic · 18/05/2020 16:00

I love it...and 'Old Irish Catholic Lady' names like Bridie and Sadie.

People always complain that certain names are 'boring', but a name like Mary will carry someone through all stages of their life without raising eyebrows, unlike some more current names.

begoniapot · 18/05/2020 15:29

I like it. Definitely needs reviving.

Whatsyourflava · 18/05/2020 15:29

Yeah I'd only consider it for a middle name
There was a mary at my school in the 80s and you wouldn't believe how many times we seemed to have to discuss the "Virgin Mary" In Religious studies Or in the Christmas play or songs. I think unless your name is Mary Or you have a Mary in class, you probably wouldn't notice or think about it.
Then when we started going to the pub "Virgin Mary" cocktails.
She really hated it. People continually called her Virgin Mary and it made it awkward with 1st boyfriend

Shortfeet · 18/05/2020 15:12

Beautiful name
