Is it boring or old fashioned?

Love it.

howrudeforme · 18/05/2020 20:09

I like it. I grew up in the 80s and didn’t know any Emma’s. But knew lots of Sharon’s Debbie’s etc.

Simple name.

Doesn’t have any connotations to it. I see my sons friends are daisy, India etc Emma is not naff like that.

Sunsage · 18/05/2020 20:02

I love it.

I think you can't beat timeless names like these!!

TSSDNCOP · 18/05/2020 19:53

Your name poses a dilemma, not much rhymes with Emma Grin

anothernamechangeagain · 18/05/2020 17:26

Love it, if I'm having a girl I may use it.

Also like Rachel

daphnerose · 18/05/2020 16:30

Emma is lovely. Short but sweet. I feel it suits every age. A baby Emma is adorable and chubby, toddler Emma is playful and lively, teenage Emma is cool and adult Emma is kind but classy.

sibbys · 18/05/2020 07:27

yawn

midwestsummer · 18/05/2020 04:09

It always reminds me of the interchangeable Emmas in Terry Pratchett.

Moonshinemisses · 18/05/2020 03:43

Its a lovely name, loved it 16yrs ago & still love it now. When mine was little she was Em, now she prefers Emma.

user1477391263 · 18/05/2020 03:30

It's perfectly inoffensive, and nobody will laugh at your kid or think her parents have no taste.. But it's really so boring.

I grew up with a million Emmas (like Claire, Sarah and Nicole). But whereas a little Sarah or Claire might be rather a refreshing change right now, "Emma" also kind of blurs into a whole bunch of names that are being used a lot at the moment--Ella, Eva, Emily, Emilia.

So, yes, it's boring whichever way you look at it.

Nothing "wrong" with it, though.

BasiliskStare · 18/05/2020 01:24

@Smillar2020 - I for one think it is a lovely and classic name. Not boring and not old fashioned - just classic. I think it would be a great name

VoVoVo · 18/05/2020 01:19

Gorgeous, classic name.

Staffori · 18/05/2020 01:13

Nice in English but too common. In Greek it means 'blood'.

Crosshall24 · 18/05/2020 00:53

Beautiful name

SionnachRua · 18/05/2020 00:45

A foul mouthed rant 😂 Sure thing, pet. That's exactly what it is (and not standard posting style of many on MN). Gold star to you.

If you can't handle someone disliking a name or understand that judgement of a name doesn't = judgement of a person, I suggest you don't frequent name forums. It's fairly standard for people to not love everything.

baskininjoe · 18/05/2020 00:43

Lovely name but always reminds me of friends and Rachel taking the baby name her best friend had had picked out for years.

It wouldn't put me off calling a child it but that's just always where my kind goes when I hear it Grin

Lala241280 · 18/05/2020 00:41

@sionnachrua

I didn’t take the hump when I didn’t like your opinion like you I don’t give a shite what you think I merely asked your kids name if you didn’t like Emma
The fact you have got defensive about it and started a foul mouth rant says it all absolutely no need

NuffSaidSam · 18/05/2020 00:38

All I said was that Emma is a perfectly nice name.

Admittedly on the subject of 'my views on the name Emma', that does indeed 'say it all'.

I'm glad you appreciate my brevity.

SionnachRua · 18/05/2020 00:13

What, that we're not insecure enough to be riled about the opinions of strangers on the internet? I guess it does say that, yeah.

I have seen my own name and kids name slated on here before. I couldn't give a shite about it. An opinion on a name is not an opinion on me personally.

Lala241280 · 18/05/2020 00:03

@NuffSaidSam @SionnachRua

Only gave my opinion on the name because it was asked for the fact you responded the way you did and didn’t give your girls names says it all really Grin

SionnachRua · 17/05/2020 23:59

Well...I did also think that Nuff 😂

Viviennemary · 17/05/2020 23:58

There's nothing wrong with it. But I'd say that it's had its day.

NuffSaidSam · 17/05/2020 23:55

As Emma is quite a popular name, it's very unlikely she's one in a million.

SionnachRua · 17/05/2020 23:52

I'm sure she is one in a million, still don't like the name. It's not singling out your child in any way.

I also don't see the need to get the hump and go asking about other people's children's names. That has no relevance to the thread. OP asked for opinions on one name, she's getting them.

Lala241280 · 17/05/2020 23:48

It’s a beautiful name , I have an Emma and she is one in a million

To all the ones that don’t like it and you have a daughter what are they called
