What do you think of Lemi as a girl's name?

Hi Everyone

Really struggling to find an unusual name for my girl.

My son nicknamed her Lemi when we told him he was having a sister. We've been calling her that throughout the pregnancy and that name has now stuck!!

Need an objective opinion about the name! What do people think??

@Lordfrontpaw has it.

Lara is OK, Fenn isn't.

milienhaus · 17/05/2020 15:48

I know a Dutch Fenna which is really nice

Iadoremylabrador · 17/05/2020 15:45

Lennie is lovely

Iadoremylabrador · 17/05/2020 15:44

Fen is nice. I know one. It's short for Fenella.

I think Lemi is okay but it would better if it was short for something Clemma it Clementine maybe

Greatbunch · 17/05/2020 15:05

Lara is lovely but definitely popular around me.

NameChange84 · 17/05/2020 15:03

Lemi = Lemmy (Motorhead) to me! Or lemon or lemming.

Fenn is horrible. I just think of The Fens and who actually likes Fenlands?

Lara is nice and an actual name.

Clemence or Clementine is quite nice. Or Fenella as a pp said.

I’ve never met anyone, the poor child’s parents aside, who liked Yoonique names.

1forAll74 · 17/05/2020 15:02

Why do you have to ask people if they like the name, when you know that you like it.? I named by children with fairly traditional names, as I never wanted to spend time, thinking about unusual names.

Destroyedpeople · 17/05/2020 14:58

I agree Leni/Lenny short for eg Eleanor wd be cool.
Of course there is Leni Reifenstal but not that many people are aware of her.

reefedsail · 17/05/2020 14:58

I think Clementine with Lemi and a family nickname would be lovely!

Inspiralcarpetry · 17/05/2020 14:57

Just re-read your OP and saw you like Fenn. I think Fenella as 'proper' name and Fenn or Fen for short is gorgeous?

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 14:55

Leonora or Leoni are lovely - but probably shortened to Leo or Lenni.

Inspiralcarpetry · 17/05/2020 14:53

Lemi - sorry, no. It's Lemmy from Motorhead to me or a daft made up name.
I do like Lenny for a girl, short for Leonora? Would be nice to give her a full name and a nickname,' to give her options as she grows.

LotusClover · 17/05/2020 14:53

Don't like Fenn. Lara is lovely, as are Clara, Cara, Tara, Zara, Lyla, Laura and Lauren.

You could always use Lemi as her nickname, but on the birth certificate she should have an actual name.

countrylanes · 17/05/2020 14:51

Why do you need an unusual girl's name?

Why don't you just pick a name you like regardless of it being unusual or usual?

I mean, all these, 'I want a name that no-one else has ever given their child but which absolutely everyone loves!' threads. You do see the problem with that? The names that people like, are the ones they give their children, and hence they are not 'unusual'..

The name for this fad for unusual names is ' Eccentric sheep'. It is easy to get sucked into this 'eccentric' herd mentality, but I am jolly glad now that I ditched the unusual names for our kids and gave them good names that aren't a burden.

Bbq1 · 17/05/2020 14:50

Fenn is short for Fenella or Fenisha neither of which I like. Fenn just sounds like a nickname or a pets name. Lara Croft!

ShaniaPayne · 17/05/2020 14:48

Fenn will get, 'Fern?' constantly.

Bbq1 · 17/05/2020 14:48

Yep, first thought Lemmy from Motorhead...unless you're a fan of course and then I'd like it! Also makes me think of Lemsip!

DarylDixonsHair · 17/05/2020 14:48

I like it! I think it would work for a sporty/adventurous type and also for a hippie/alternative girl.

florascotia2 · 17/05/2020 14:47

It's a man's name in at least two African countries, and in Samoa:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemi_(name)

It's a surname (reference = ditto)

According to this Turkish website, it's a male name (not unisex) in Turkey:

bluestarsatnightfall · 17/05/2020 14:44

Lemi the lemon jumped out at me for some reason lol

Lordfrontpaw · 17/05/2020 14:44

I like Laura. I think - not so sure now I see it written down!

Lexi2013 · 17/05/2020 14:44

Pronounced as Lem-ee

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 17/05/2020 14:43

Lara I like. Not Fenn.

PurpleDaisies · 17/05/2020 14:42

Lara is nice.

Fenn isn’t.
