Am sure this must have been done before but I went and did a search and nothing came up. We both like Zoey/Zoe but can't decide on the spelling. I like Zoe and he likes Zoey. I think Zoey is too America but then Zoe does look like it would rhyme with Joe. So I just want to get an idea of your thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to reply!

@Blackbear19 in what world does Zoe rhyme with Joe?? Confused

BikeRunSki · 17/05/2020 08:12

Zoë has been around long enough that’s pronounciation is widely understood, with or without the dots, but the dots do make it correct. Like Niamh and Siobhan are recognised by non-Irish speakers.

Zoe

AdaColeman · 17/05/2020 08:04

Zoë is the way to go.

monkeyonthetable · 17/05/2020 08:00

Zoe with or without dots is pronounced Zoh-ee in UK> So no need for the y which just looks like you didn't know how the original name was spelled.

Just Zoe or Zoë.

flowery · 17/05/2020 07:57

”Zoe would rhyme with Joe”

It really really wouldn’t.

MadamNoo · 17/05/2020 07:56

Zooey is a boys name, shortening of Zachary in America- that’s how Salinger uses it.

BikeRunSki · 17/05/2020 07:53

Zoë is a 3rd century name that is well established, and has had 2 saints. It comes from the Alexandrian Jews translation of the bible, where “Eve” was translated as Zoë, being the Greek word for “Life”. you are correct, but use the dots
Zoey is a modern corruption.
It depends whether you like ancient tradition and correctness or modern and trendy made up spellings

The only Zoey I'm aware of is that shit blogger. I'd assume you were a fan of hers! Would you spell Chloe, Chloey?? Lol!

tamsintamsout · 17/05/2020 00:21

Zoë is a great name.

Zoey looks weird sorry, much prefer the more common spelling.

Alymcnabs · 16/05/2020 23:49

Zoe

I have a 6yo Zoë (we write it "with dots" as she'd tell you). No one has ever mispronounced her name.

BreconBeBuggered · 16/05/2020 23:43

Use the dieresis to indicate the pronunciation if you want to be super sure nobody tries the rhyme it with Joe. But they won't. Zoey is a big fat noey.

CherryMaple · 16/05/2020 23:42

You’re right OP. Two threads on this recently. Zoë Grin

Callimanco · 16/05/2020 23:42

Zoë
The two dots mean you pronounce the "e", like in Chloë

Zoey is nowhere near as nice.

JoanieCash · 16/05/2020 23:40

The diaeresis on the e, indicates how to pronounce it, so spell it Zoë

ButteryPuffin · 16/05/2020 23:39

Zoe. The pronunciation is well known.

Lucked · 16/05/2020 23:38

Zoe

Underused and rather beautiful.

Grandmi · 16/05/2020 23:37

Zoe

Blackbear19 · 16/05/2020 23:36

Zoe would rhyme with Joe
Zoey would rhyme with Joey,

LotusClover · 16/05/2020 23:34

Zoe is much nicer than Zoey. It's a well recognised name so I don't think many people with pronounce it to rhyme with Joe.

123Dancewithme · 16/05/2020 23:33

Zoe
