Maxine - too old fashioned or ready for a comeback?

Dp is trying to get me to come around to this name but I'm just not sure. What do you think?

I like it. Also thought of Max from Stranger Things, not Maxine Carr.

My friend is called Maxine. She is in her 20s and very cool, so I have very positive associations with the name! I like the sound too, positive and upbeat.

It’s fine to say you dislike a name, but that is an absolutely ridiculous statement to make. It’s a pretty inoffensive name - it’s not like we are discussing if you should call a child Hitler.
Do you think “oooh...evil” every time you meet a Maxine? It’s a pretty common name and pretty offensive to anyone that has that name. I know at least a couple in their 30s and one in her 20s.
Do you make the same statement about Ian? Or maybe a Ted or a Jeffrey? Or is it just women’s names?

the best you can hope for is that people will feel sorry for her, and wonder why her parents saddled her with a name with such absolutely negative connotations.
many others will simply avoid her. perhaps unconsciously, eg in job applications. life is competitive, why give your offspring an extra hurdle.
sheer vanity and egotism.. "I like it so i dont care."

carry on then. why ask.

I think people won't think of Carr once you announce your baby. They would think of her! I didn't think off maxine carr initially I was thinking what a nice name it is. It's not a faddy fashionable one but neither seems an old person name. They're won't be 5 of them in school either

I find it rather dated, a made up name from the 50s/60s which I don't think would ever be due a comeback. Sounds French, but it isn't.

Someone in my extended family named her baby Maxima, which is better. The Queen of the Netherlands is Maxima I think
Unfortunately my relative calls her little girl Max for short, sounds very masculine. But I suppose you will get that with any Max--name.

Maxine Carr - just no way. She's unfortunately tainted the name forever.

I like the "x" in the middle though - how about Roxanne or Roxanna? Nn Roxy?

Myra remains Myra Hess the pianist for me.

I just find Maxine a rather dated, 70s-ish sort of name -- it's with Carol, Karen, Linda etc for me. It'll no doubt come round again, but not yet.

I like it. Not british so the whole Carr thing doesn't really ring a bell. Also there are plenty of murderers with common names that people keep using without a second thought so I don't see why this one should be any different.

I am biased but I love this name and the person I know with it loves it too. She went by Max when we were growing up as she was quite tomboyish but prefers the full Maxine now she is in her thirties. Other than her, I’ve never met another Maxine in person.

LOVE IT! I would call my next daughter this, but my partner doesn't like the thought of me calling her max as a nn Hmm Go for it
