I am really anxious and stressed, please be kind. I am currently worrying myself sick over names. I have two different styles and am completely torn which to go for. I posted about the name Tom and wasn’t clear so I thought I would try to write another with a full list to get some help. I don’t want a name that is really popular or that is likely to become extremely popular and I feel like I have looked at every possible name now. Help would be much appreciated
I so far have these names:
Rupert
Felix
Monty
Dominic
Peter
Frank
Drew
Joe
Guy
Tom

Tristan is lovely @obsessingovernames

Peter and Felix I adore
I know one little 5 year old boy called peter and he always gets "how lovely to hear that name again! So unusual these days". I actually know two little boys called Fox and that name sounds more mainstream now than Peter 😂

Frankly it isn't possible to predict which name is likely to become popular, so I think you should just choose a name you really like the sound and meaning of, so that if the name does suddenly become top 10 you don't feel too disappointed. As an exemple I love the name Lukas but it's become ridiculously popular over the past few years (top 5 in my country), in a way nobody could have predicted 10 years ago.

Anyway, back to your names...

Rupert - don't love it, always felt like a misspelling of Robert to me !

Felix - I like it, it's a very ancient name with a pleasant meaning in latin, and quite international.

Monty - feels like a nickname, and Montgomery feels like a surname. I'd prefer Jonathan nicknamed Jonty !

Dominic - quite nice actually, plenty of nice nickname options, suitable for kids and adults.

Peter - I find it a bit boring and common. Even if it's not actually used that much these days, it's been so overused in the past, I can't get over it.

Frank - fine name, I don't really feel strongly about it either way.

Drew - it's a nickname. Andrew is fine but same as Peter, common and boring.

Joe - also a nickname. Joseph is fine though. I also really like Jonas or Jonah or Jonathan.

Guy - too many puns... "he's such a nice guy..." etc. It's also quite short, I like names at least 2 syllables, but obviously that's a matter of taste !

Tom - nickname. Thomas is okay but overused.

How about Nathan/Nathaniel, Geoffrey, Arthur, Jeremy ?

Rupert the bear
Felix reminds me of the cat food

I love Drew.
Tom, Frank and Joe are also nice.

@Sourcat that would have been my first choice but it has been used by someone close to us. I think it's such a handsome name xx

Not so keen on Guy or Drew - and Rupert maybe a bit try-hard/tough for the child to carry off - but the others are all great.

How about Kit as another option?

obsessingovernames · 17/05/2020 08:36

xx ty so much, lots of really helpful feedback to help me decide. Really just want to get it right and be happy with my choice xx

Also like Joel

candle18 · 16/05/2020 22:31

From your list I like Joe and Tom and would have Joseph and Thomas as their ‘proper’ name.

user1493494961 · 16/05/2020 22:25

Dominic or Peter

finallychangedmyusername · 16/05/2020 17:54

Nice list! I love Dominic, Peter and Rupert.

CeibaTree · 16/05/2020 17:12

I love Felix and Tom. Dominic is a nice name but just reminds me of Dominic Cummings now! Felix was a contender for us and other names we liked were Silas, Jasper, Otto, Zachary and Seth :)

applecrumbs · 16/05/2020 16:15

I think Felix is a cat name and drew is a bit common.

I like all the others but Joseph not joe. Peter feels dated but I hope it comes back :). Frank is a great name, I know a little Frank and he's a real character

singswithitsfingers · 16/05/2020 14:55

Two babies named Felix in my office in the last three months (and my office isn't huge). It's nice but I think it will be very popular.

Mish85 · 16/05/2020 14:52

I know it probably won't help you but I like all your names, I don't think you can go wrong 😊

obsessingovernames · 16/05/2020 09:49

So grateful for all your responses xx

Peter

wishing3 · 16/05/2020 09:28

I like Dominic, Joe,Guy and Tom and I can’t imagine your son will feel like he’s got a ‘wet’ name growing up with any of them!

AllRainbowsAndUnicorns · 16/05/2020 08:33

My faves are Felix and Dominic.

Dominic is quite romantic, and then Nic is a punchy, masculine shortening. DH wouldn't let me have it as he grew up with a female Dominique so saw it as a girl's name.

DramaAlpaca · 16/05/2020 00:37

I like all your list with the exception of Rupert and Frank.

My favourites are Dominic, Peter and Tom.

123Dancewithme · 16/05/2020 00:34

Peter, Tom or Joe

Orphlids · 15/05/2020 18:41

Ah, sorry to hear you’re feeling stressed. You can stop worrying, you have a good list! I’m not keen on Drew, I like all the others. You said your taste sometimes is for posh / wet names - how about Tristan? It is quite posh, with maybe just a dash of wet. It was on my list for if we were having another boy.

autumnkate · 15/05/2020 18:03

Dominic or Joseph (Joe)

obsessingovernames · 15/05/2020 16:22

Thanks for the help so far xx

Lovely classic name and not too popular at all Smile
