*it could grow on him.

I agree, it doesn't feel feminine to me at all. Husband thinks it's alright, but prefers arthur. It's just not his favourite I guess, but he thinks he could grow on him.

I'm not sure why some people said August is a girl's name, it doesn't sound at all feminine to me.

OP I get the impression that you like August but your DP isn't keen, if that's the case did he say why he doesn't like it ?

averythinline · 16/05/2020 10:37

Sorry missed ur post that august has meaning to you in which case would suggest it as a middle name ..,

averythinline · 16/05/2020 10:12

Could you not use Angus with Gus ? Not a fan of August as is very different from James ... I'd think you'd wanted a girl.....as is more usually a girls name ... love Jim and Gus though

Although love Jude not keen on matching initials...

Angus Henry
Angus Jude

elizabell · 16/05/2020 04:08

I love the name August so August Henry Jude for me. In fact, I love all three names.

mathanxiety · 16/05/2020 03:48

Another possible NN for August is Augie, which imo is lovely. I really like Gus too.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with August. It's on a different level altogether from Arthur.

123Dancewithme · 16/05/2020 00:37

I love August!

marshallrubblechaserockyzoomer · 15/05/2020 23:10

Arthur but I'm biasGrin

whatausername · 15/05/2020 22:22

Have to say I love your other son's name. Suits all ages, sounds very respectable and has that little twist of River :-)

whatausername · 15/05/2020 22:20

Has your husband said what it is about August that he is unsure about? Are there names he likes more?

Esnjim · 15/05/2020 21:23

I do really really love August, husband isnt as keen, and its making me have doubts.

The baby isnt due in August. I dont like August just to have the nn Gus, its August I like. August has special meaning to me, so I'm not after a full name for Gus, but thank you. I happened to notice that Gus would make a great nickname that also sounds great with Jim.

I also understand another comment about naturally evolving nicknames. I also call James- Crickett. This randomly came about one day and never left. But I do think its important to look at options a name gives you when making decisions. :)

Gus is fabulous! Love it.

Crabbo · 15/05/2020 21:18

August Henry Jude. I love the name August. Although I prefer August Arthur Jude as it flows better.

CorianderLord · 15/05/2020 21:15

Love them both. August is my favourite boys name but DP won't let me have it

whatausername · 15/05/2020 21:10

P.p.s. Ultimately, it is irrelevant as it's OP's kid anyway. Wink

whatausername · 15/05/2020 21:08

@autumnkate I have a thing about planning nicknames in advance. I get the point in checking you don't hate any of them and that none would be rude or offensive but picking them in advance seems strange to me. Ime NNs always just evolve. Something happens or comes about or is noticed, an associated word sticks, it becomes a nn - often nothing to with their original name! There are so many posts on here planning a nn or deciding on a nn and trying to reverse engineer a full name and I find the whole trend naff. All personal opinion ofc.

P.s. Interestingly, I only really know one child who has his name shortened! Everyone else seems to go by their 'proper' name, I don't think it's regional as the kids I know are spread over several areas of two countries. Or it could be regional and I happened to have lived in regions with similar tendancies to each other. Who knows.

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/05/2020 21:07

Oh and as a person with two middle names, it’s fine. My kids will have the same.

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/05/2020 21:03

August for sure. Arthur is lovely but they’re coming out of our ears here, there’s 3 in my DNs class.
August is also definitely a boys name, the nn Gus is brilliant

mathanxiety · 15/05/2020 21:00

August Henry Jude.

If you're only using August to yield the NN Gus, how about Gustav or Augustine?

user1493494961 · 15/05/2020 20:53

Is he's due in August, I think it would be a bit naff.

autumnkate · 15/05/2020 20:40

Obviously OP doesn’t need to shorten the name @whatausername but let’s be realistic, most names do get abbreviated in some way

autumnkate · 15/05/2020 20:38

I agree- Gus is a great name and goes nicely with Jim

MintyMurray17 · 15/05/2020 19:42

Jim and Gus is an adorable duo!
