Saffie or Emmie or neither?!

Hi everyone!
I’m a FTM due my little girl in July, currently 29 weeks. For the first few months me and DH couldn’t agree on any names - we both like Evie for a while, but that didn’t last long!

I then suggested Saffie which we both REALLY liked, and decided that was THE name... but last few days I’m having doubts!

I know it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. But I keep thinking of other people’s opinions, and can’t see anyone liking it very much! What do you think?? Is it a nice name, or am I being silly?!

I love Emmie, but DH not keen at all. Should I try and convince him, stick with Saffie, or give up on both and try something else?! 😂

Middle name will be Rae, as that’s my sisters name 😊 x

Emma Rae sounds nice. I really wouldn't want to be saddled with any 'cute' names as an adult. You can call her Emmie when she's little and then when shes older she can make her own mind up.
Emma is a lovely classic name that's never too popular or goes out of fashion completely. Saffron was very trendy a while ago but now I think it sounds a bit naff.

123Dancewithme · 13/05/2020 23:33

Very twee. They’re not going to be little forever, I’d choose something more suitable for an adult woman.

TheRoyallingStones · 13/05/2020 23:26

Of the two I prefer Saffie

But Emma or Saffron would be far better than either

indemMUND · 13/05/2020 23:17

Neither of they're going to be first name instead of nicknames. Better to have a real name to fall back on.

putastrawunderbaby · 13/05/2020 23:07

What about Effie?

EngagedAgain · 13/05/2020 23:03

On the back of another name thread (which I like, name threads that is) I suddenly realised how nick names seem to have either replaced the full name or right from the word go parents want to call them by a nick name. I guess things have changed but in the past a nick name/shortened version would happen later on as a natural gradual progression, or not even until they were young adults. I'm not against it, it's just an observation.

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 22:56

I hate names ending with ie. Especially followed by Rae...

WinWinnieTheWay · 13/05/2020 22:54

Saffia or Emily/Emma and then you can use the diminutive.

MondeoFan · 13/05/2020 22:53

Saffron - Saffie
Sapphire - Saffie
Savannah - Saffie

All would work

Fiflowertot · 13/05/2020 22:48

I’d go Saffron nn Saffie. ☺️
Marnie is another suggestion, seems similar to the names you like OP.

Iadoremylabrador · 13/05/2020 22:46

I love the name Sapphire with the nickname Saffie.

Emmie is lovely too but I would want a 'proper' name to go with it too. Just in case she wants something more grown up. So Emma or Emmaline.

Immie and Imogen are lovely too. Just thinking along the same lines.

helpmum2003 · 13/05/2020 22:15

I personally would go for Emma/Emilia/Emily or Saffron on birth certificate and use the nn. I prefer Emmie to Saffy.

I quite like the Safiya suggestion also.

Mumto1andthetinybun · 13/05/2020 22:05

I like both names.
I know an adult Emmie and her name still suits her. Actually really love that name

mathanxiety · 13/05/2020 22:04

I don't think either of them really goes with the middle name.

Emily Rae is nice, or Emilia Rae, with the NN Emmie.
Maybe Savannah Rae with Saffie as NN.
Or Safiya.

Saffie is quite Ab Fab (though maybe only people of a certain age would know that)..

lunar1 · 13/05/2020 22:02

My friend is Saffie, short for Safina.

candle18 · 13/05/2020 21:59

Not sure if I like Saffie or not, quite like Emmie. What about Esme, I think that’s really nice.

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 21:58

I love Emmie.

Saffie is more a dog's name in my view 😂

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/05/2020 21:56

I’ve never been known by my longer full name, always the shortened version- but I like the full name on my birth certificate.

Dav87 · 13/05/2020 21:55

I like both as full names, rather than nicknames for anything.

But I agree that both might not suit an adult in the same way ☹️

Maybe time to re-visit the baby name books!

I think Saffron or Emma or a variation of it; Emily, Emmeline, Emilia, are nice.

I'm not keen on using nicknames as actual given names, let the child decide that for themselves when older.

peperethecat · 13/05/2020 21:49

I don’t believe you have to choose a longer version for birth certificate of she’s always going to be known by the ‘nickname’ version anyway.

What if she doesn't want to be known by the nickname when she gets older?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/05/2020 21:48

Are you picking nicknames as the official names?

peperethecat · 13/05/2020 21:48

I wouldn't go for either as a full name. They're OK as nicknames for a little girl but not really for an adult woman who wants to be taken seriously.

Emmeline?

babynamelover · 13/05/2020 21:45

Prefer Emme spelling :). And I would use Saffron or another alternative Saf name for full as Saffie is too cutsey in my eyes for an adult.

Dav87 · 13/05/2020 21:23

Thank you everyone, this site is so helpful for me! 😊

I’m glad there are some “likes” for both names, had convinced myself I was the only one in the world who liked either, haha!

I don’t mind either of them being “nicknames”, but a really good point about needing to be suitable for an adult as well as a child!

Thank you - hopefully I’ll update this post at the end of July with the outcome! 😊❤️
