How many middle names are too many?

Just that really, how many middle names are too many?
Have you come a cross anyone with a lot?

My family/friends tend to have no middle name, one middle or two.

What about when you add your partner's name as a middle name - that adds things up too.
Example:
Sarah Louise Elizabeth Williamson (dad's-fake-surname) James (mum's-fake-surname).
Receiving post or filling in forms as Miss S L E W James.

Just feels like a lot.

As a last born child on the way, it is hard not to want to throw every name at her.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

One first, two middle one last
Two first one middle one last
One first one middle one last
Anymore than that is just show off and ridiculous guarantee they are not as wealthy as the name

tootiredtoclean · 14/05/2020 00:35

I have 3 middle names as do some of my siblings. I like my name, despite it being long, and all the form filling nightmares. Every name has a meaning to my parents/the family.

mrbob · 14/05/2020 00:32

One is plenty. 2 at a push

Lizadork · 14/05/2020 00:28

Quite interesting reading though, especially being confused for a nutcase killer :D Seems most are of the opinion that less is more in terms of middle names. Don't some of the royals have super long names?

Anything more than one is ridiculous

Gooseygoosey12345 · 14/05/2020 00:21

I have 2 and trust me that's enough. Can never fit my full name on forms

BackforGood · 13/05/2020 23:54

One is enough, IMO

I have one first name, one middle name, and one surname. that is plenty.

I have 3dc - all the same (3 names in total) - it still used to take about 1/2 and hour to fill out the forms every time I went to the Dentist Grin

Shortfeet · 13/05/2020 23:43

One

alphajuliet123 · 13/05/2020 23:36

None seems mean, one is perfect, two acceptable, three or more is just a bit wanky.

Chatons · 13/05/2020 23:36

I have four middle names, as do my brothers. I love it.

When my brother got married, there were giggles every time his full name was read out. Added more joy to the occasion somehow.

KittieKath · 13/05/2020 23:31

My DP has five names, so three middle names. It has caused him a few problems. For instance not having space on exam forms, which led to his A-Level certificates not being matched with him. And issues with proving identify, as his bank statements are missing a name, which means some companies, like a recent mortgage company, wouldn't accept them as proof of address.

pirateparker · 13/05/2020 23:26

One is enough!

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 13/05/2020 23:25

@35andThriving this is why you need to make any children have the same number (and type) of names as their siblings as it leads to negative feelings of difference. It may seem silly but it does.

@Thisismytimetoshine I keep working in places that insist on seeing passport/driving licence and then putting all your names on your work id. It means everyone knows everyone else's full name.

Dotty02 · 13/05/2020 23:15

I have 1 middle name so do my children, more then 1 may seem a lot Wink

toastofthetown · 13/05/2020 23:10

For me any more than two is too many. Too many more would have you in Clarissa Dixon Wright territory! (Clarissa Theresa Philomena Aileen Mary Josephine Agnes Elsie Trilby Louise Esmerelda Dickson Wright)

35andThriving · 13/05/2020 22:51

Probably mostly because my siblings have two. I feel a little short-changed.

Lulubon · 13/05/2020 22:35

I have 5 names in total- 1 first name 2 middle names and 2 surnames. It's a bit of a nightmare to fill forms out and my name never fits on anything but other then that it's an interesting topic that people like to ask me about 🤷🏼‍♀️ not sure I'd give my child 5 names though.

Unremarkable · 13/05/2020 22:34

I have two middle names. Please just stick with one. It might make you feel good but it will give your child a raft of admin and they’ll never be used. I use neither of my middle names as it’s easier to pretend they don’t exist. No what you’re hoping for I imagine.

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 22:33

Why?

35andThriving · 13/05/2020 22:32

I have one middle name. I would love to have two.

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 22:10

It's unusual to actually use all your middle names when form filling, tbh. Most people don't do that, surely?

LudaMusser · 13/05/2020 22:08

More than one middle name is stupid

35andThriving · 13/05/2020 21:59

If I was part of the royal family I would definitely give my children about 6 middle names. Smile

As it is, dd has two.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 13/05/2020 21:48

I've always thought 1 middle name was plenty. However DS1 has 2. DS2 only has one.
I guess it depends how long the names are. 5 x 2 or 3 syllable names would be too long imo.

babynamelover · 13/05/2020 21:42

My girls have one middle but I wish now I had given them a second Te Reo Maaori name but it's expensive to add another in now.
