What’s your favourite of our top three for each, and what do you think of when you hear them? Are they classics? Any recommendations?

Margot
Penelope
Blythe

Alexander
Theodore
Louis

Thank you x

Blythe and Louis (pronounced properly otherwise Alexander).

MikeUniformMike · 14/05/2020 16:55

Really dislike Theodore

DoctorBambino · 14/05/2020 12:16

Margot - seems to be a lot of them, sounds classy but I always read it as mar got
Penelope - it's ok, a bit of a mouthful
Blythe - I like it, it's pretty and sophisticated

Alexander - I like it, great strong name. I think people called Alex are generally sensible and intelligent
Theodore - love it, lots of short versions too
Louis - never know whether to say like lewis or looey

I love Blythe. Being of a certain generation I just think of Margot Leadbetter from the Good Life who was a snobbish housewife from the suburbs. I have a friend called Penny who is over 60 so can't see past that.
I think Theodore is way too popular and Louis is OK but Alexander would get my vote as it's timeless.

chocolatecheesecake · 14/05/2020 06:49

Penelope and Alexander. Lovely both in full and as penny and Alex.

copperoliver · 14/05/2020 06:45

Blythe and Theodore. X

Aclh13 · 14/05/2020 05:59

Every *

Aclh13 · 14/05/2020 05:59

I disagree it is quite an up and coming baby name currently, very short and sweet with a longer paper name like very parent loves

guanciale · 14/05/2020 05:50

penny sounds really out of fashion

Aclh13 · 14/05/2020 05:30

Margot❌
Penelope (I could be fake and suggest Margot but I prefer Penelope and is my fave name because you can shorten to penny/pennie) ✔️
Blythe❌

Alexander❌
Theodore✔️
Louis❔ honestly not sure between Louis if pronounced 'louie' and theodore ', theo'

123Dancewithme · 13/05/2020 23:24

Penelope and Louis are my top picks.

Then Blythe and Theodore.

Followed by Margot and Alexander.

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2020 22:04

Penelope and either Alexander or Louis for me.

Bubbletrouble43 · 13/05/2020 21:58

Both my parents names are on your shortlist 🤣 shows how names come round
Love all your boys names they are all classic and classy
Penelope is your best girls name ( my mum is penny, I think it's cute)

daisydaisydoodle · 13/05/2020 21:55

Penelope
Theodore

RickOShay · 13/05/2020 21:49

Margot
Alexander

missmouse101 · 13/05/2020 21:47

Margot is a geriatric name and looks like Maggot. Penelope is nice and Alexander is nice.

Maybelatte · 13/05/2020 21:45

Penelope and Louis.

I don’t mind Margot either but not keen on any of the others.

peperethecat · 13/05/2020 21:41

I like them all except Blythe. Although I wouldn't mind Blythe as a middle name.

Edenember · 13/05/2020 21:02

@dillytilly oooh this is really difficult, all strong choices. From the girls I like both Margot and Penelope, Blythe has more of A middle name feel for me and I’ve absolutely no idea why. I would use all 3 unless. Margot Penelope Blythe or Penelope Margot Blythe unless you already have names chosen for middles or dislike middle names. As far as Penelope goes I’d just be sure you’re happy with it being shortened to Penny because I feel it’s a name that definitely will be shortened whether you like it or not. For the record I like Penny but if you don’t you’d be setting yourself up for a lifetime of correction and frustration. Of the boys names I prefer Louis, I feel like Theodore seems to be very popular on here although I don’t know how that translates into popularity in the real world or whether such things matter to you. Again would definitely be shortened by classmates as would Alexander so as long as you’re happy with the shortened forms because realistically that’s what you’d be hearing from people day to day.

BabyDust13 · 13/05/2020 20:56

Penelope and Theodore are lovely

LotusClover · 13/05/2020 20:48

Very strongly dislike all 3 girls names, especially Margot.

Louis is nice. I don't like the other 2.
