Lenny short for Elena

pinkpinecone · 12/05/2020 10:56

Louisa - quite pretty

Sophia - it's nice and inoffensive but I prefer Sophie
Elena - nice
Zara - Philips
Rosalia - how is this pronounced?
Adella/Adelina - to me it's overly fussy
Iskra - it's nice but I'm not familiar with it
Aurora - like it and Rory is a cool nn for a girl
Estelle/Estella - really like Estelle
Flora - makes me think of margarine or gut bacteria unfortunately

Swingingontheswing · 11/05/2020 18:26

Name not babe! 😀

Swingingontheswing · 11/05/2020 18:26

Louisa - lovely classy name. My favourite by a mile.
Sophia - too popular.
Elena - sounds too ordinary. Eleanor is nicer.
Zara - nice.
Rosalia - The one I know is in her 80s. It’s ok. I prefer Rose.
Adella/Adelina - Not my taste not is the babe Adele.
Iskra - Ok but unusual for English speakers and doesn’t meet your criteria.

Aurora - no. Too Disney.
Estelle/Estella - I dislike Stella and I think it would be shortened.
Flora - nice.

BlueGreenYellowRed · 11/05/2020 18:23

People would definitely mispronounce Elena though - always an issue with vowel-heavy names.

BlueGreenYellowRed · 11/05/2020 18:21

Aurora

Maybelatte · 11/05/2020 16:06

I only like Zara.

Flora is margarine.

Pemba · 11/05/2020 16:03

I like Elena, but there would be pronunciation difficulties and there are so many different ways to say it. I'd naturally say El-LAY-na, I've known two, and they're both pronounced this way.

My favourite on your list is Estella, it's gorgeous and that bit more unusual than either Stella or Estelle.

Second favourite is Sophia, but that was been so popular in recent years it might put me off a bit.

Yearcat13 · 11/05/2020 10:23

Sophia or Flora.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 11/05/2020 10:22

Not wild about any of them tbh, but of your list my favourites are Louisa and Estella (although prefer Stella).

MikeUniformMike · 11/05/2020 10:22

Louisa - lovely
Sophia - nice but prefer Sophie
Elena - no. Pronunciation and there are so many popular El names.
Zara - shop
Rosalia - no. Rosa-lee-ah or Rose-ahl-ya?
Adella/Adelina - ugly
Iskra - looks like a brand name
Aurora - no
Estelle/Estella - Stella is nicer
Flora - lovely

123Dancewithme · 11/05/2020 10:18

Louisa or Flora

Mucklowe · 11/05/2020 09:07

Louisa - ordinary
Sophia - common
Elena - ok
Zara - boring
Rosalia - weird
Adella/Adelina - Adella, nice. Adelina, not nice.
Iskra - GORGEOUS.
Aurora - getting too popular.
Estelle/Estella - not bad.
Flora - so boring and pallid.

peperethecat · 11/05/2020 08:41

I pronounce it E-lay-na.

Overthinker1988 · 11/05/2020 08:34

Thanks again for the thoughts and suggestions. Yes, I did think Ellie as a nickname would fall into the too popular/trendy right now category but I do like the name...and the full name Elena isn't that common in this country, I don't think (It comes from Greek and is used in Greece, Italy, Spain, Eastern Europe and other countries.) It's the European version of Helen/Helena/Ellen. I'm not as keen on those versions though.

I'm also wondering, how would people pronounce it? (It's supposed to have the stress in the second "e" and it's a "hard" e sound but I have a feeling people would say "EL-ena" or "Eleena")

A few people have asked about or commented on Iskra...it's a Slavic name (definitely not made up!) I guess it's not that well known in the rest of Europe but not unheard of either, there's a British model called Iskra Lawrence. The name means "sparkle". DH has vetoed it though, I guess it sounds strange to a native English speaker so that's out.
