Boys name: Fox

InTheHouseBored · 09/05/2020 23:50

Found out I'm having another boy this week (my second). We really struggled tryna find a boys names even before we found out he was a boy.

I love Fox but can't bring myself to actually name my son that. Plus his last name will begin with F as well so really won't work, or will it? To me the alliteration makes him sound like a marvel superhero. Which I don't want.

Other options are:
Finley
Jaxxon
Creed
Emilio
River
Cullen
Rory
Louie
Sonny
Nico

We can't agree on any or find one that we like enough.

Any suggestions/opinions please??
TIA

I don't like Fox. It's very trendy and comes across as very try hard to me. Fox is a very polarising name, but it's now in the top 500 and rising rapidly. I would imagine that Fox is a name where clusters form in certain areas, so if you are considering Fox, other parents in your area might be as well.

Lewis can be either first or surname like most Scottish surnames. Very old tradition of giving a boy the mothers maiden surname as a first name

Brownyblonde · 10/05/2020 10:09

Last line meant to read the spelling 'Lewis' is actually a surname

Brownyblonde · 10/05/2020 10:08

@buffalo my son is called Louis thankyou very much and we pronounce it Lewis. Not because I'm illiterate. Here's why...... In France L-O-U-I-S = 'louie' bring it back here to the UK and it translates to 'Lewis' in France... H-E-N-R-Y = (on-ree) in England we say 'Henry' if you want to keep the French roots and pronounce it 'louie' that's cool. But I prefer to pronounce 'Louis' Lewis is a surname

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/05/2020 10:02

@Brownyblonde but Louis is isn’t pronounced Lewis? If you want Lewis spell it Lewis

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/05/2020 10:02

Fox is cool.

Todd means fox if you wanted something more real name but similar.

Hate arlo. It reminds me of a chavvy girl called Harlow and her mum bellowing 'arrrrlo'

Brownyblonde · 10/05/2020 09:57

Love Louis (pronounced Lewis not louie) love fox. Wouldn't have. But met an older handsome business man called fox and now love it

kennyjenny · 10/05/2020 09:55

Someone I know named her daughter Fox, I thought that is such a strange name to call your daughter but everyone has different tastes in names. It seems more acceptable now to have strange names.

Out of the list I like Rory and Louie.

Temple29 · 10/05/2020 08:19

I like Fox but as you said not sure if I could use it.

From your list I like Finley and River. Love Marley as suggested by PP and I have a Caleb so a bit biased 😊

I’m due my second boy in September too and think we’re going to go with Elijah but also considered Ellis. Boys names are really tough!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/05/2020 08:08

I like Arlo but it is incredibly popular right now and as your other names are less usual (except Louie) then that might bother you.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/05/2020 08:06

Fox - No, it's an animal not a name
Finley- OK, prefer Finlay
Jaxxon - No, the spelling is horrific
Creed - No
Emilio - No
River - No
Cullen - No
Rory - Ok
Louie - Ok
Sonny - Ok
Nico - Ok

I don't love any of them but particularly dislike Jaxxon. I'm not a fan of surnames are first names but the spelling is awful here too. Louis is nicer than Louie. Sonny was popular a few years ago, it might be a bit dated now.

Fiflowertot · 10/05/2020 07:57

I like Rory out of your list the most. I quite like Arlo too. Smile

Teddy
Bobby
Ernie
Cody
Other suggestions? It’s too early for my mind to work. Grin

Pickles89 · 10/05/2020 07:54

If you love foxes, how about Finnegan?

Whatsyourflava · 10/05/2020 07:29

@Blackbear19 @Malysh
I'm amazed "waiting til you see the baby" actually works for anyone. I did this twice in the hope the name would become apparent and ....nope. Baby just looked like a baby and I wished I'd just made a decision in advance.

I like the name Fox. Like your list apart from Creed, Emilio and Rory (seems a bit dull compared to your other choices)

Are any of these names any good, i think we have similar-ish taste:

Marley
Christopher nn Kit
Barnaby
Nathan/Nathaniel - Nate
Sidney
Laurence nn Laurie
Vincent nn Vinnie
Curtis
Eli
Ellis
Miles / Milo
Seth
Cole
Otis
Eric
Casper
Rudy/Rudi
Dexter
Blake
Angus
Dominic
Idris
Percy
Chester
Caleb
Austin
Griff
Tristan
Bodhi
Otto

Ineedaduvetday · 10/05/2020 07:12

Mulder

AragornsManlyStubble · 10/05/2020 07:06

My daughter is at school with a Fox, I like it!

Definite vote here for Cullen, it was on my list for a boy 8 years ago for said daughter.

LesLavandes · 10/05/2020 07:04

Nooooo

Ladycoo1 · 10/05/2020 06:58

Ridiculous name. Fox!

BelfastNonBlonde · 10/05/2020 06:49

Out of your other names I only like Finley, Rory, Cullen, Louie and Sonny - but I’m
Not overly adventurousy

BelfastNonBlonde · 10/05/2020 06:46

I’m due this month. Pretty sure am going to use Fox as a middle name I’d can get husband on board. He seemed a bit perplexed when I told him but he’s not into middle names (don’t have done - poor sod) so seemed to become ok with it..)

Anyways I think it’s dead cute. Use it if you love it.

Blackbear19 · 10/05/2020 06:36

I don't really get this "wait till you see him" thing

Actually I do get that. I was dithering between two names for my eldest and after a couple of days, his name grew on me and he just didn't look like a David.
My second I can't remember what other names we had but he was named within minutes.
A friend was also between two names but neither seemed to stand out . Then someone said neither of them could be right if they weren't standing out so she had a rethink and went for something different.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 10/05/2020 05:57

The truth is out there Smile

Malysh · 10/05/2020 05:52

I don't really get this "wait till you see him" thing. He's gonna look like a baby, what do you expect ? That he'll have his name tattooed on his forehead ? Waiting just amps the pressure a thousand percent because once he's born you only have so much time to register him (in my country you only have 3 days...) and you feel stupid calling him "baby".

Anyway, Fox makes me think of Mulder... Or the news channel.

Finley - yes but I thought you didn't like the alliteration ?

Jaxxon - meh. Especially spell this way.

Creed - only if you're an Assassin's Creed fan...

Emilio - ok but sounds very italian

River - hmmm okay, don't hate it

Cullen - makes me think of the dragon age character, which is fine. But then I remember those sparkly vampires and I'm like "uuurgh".

Rory - personally find the double R hard to pronounce (but english isn't my first language)

Louie - as pp said, Louis is fine. Really like it actually.

Sonny - don't like, feels like calling a girl "daughter"...

Nico - yes if Nicolas on birth certificate
