Which name do you prefer and why? Baby will have an Arab & English background :)

Amira is gorgeous. I hate the name Serena it's so harsh.

Ingridla · 12/05/2020 10:01

They're both beautiful but Amira just edges it!

sibbys · 11/05/2020 17:43

Amira because of the arab background - really don't like Serena

Lyricallie · 11/05/2020 17:19

Oh I really like both. Maybe Serena as you don't hear it as often.

Bubbletrouble43 · 11/05/2020 17:15

They're both lovely names. Serena has the edge for me, very pretty.

bridgetreilly · 11/05/2020 17:13

How about Samira?

Lonan · 11/05/2020 16:22

Amira

daisypond · 10/05/2020 22:31

Samina is nice too.

Millie272020 · 10/05/2020 22:29

Thank you! Yes Amina is also really pretty, thanks for the suggestion :)

I really like both! And I like Amina which is somewhere in between not that it helps Confused

finallychangedmyusername · 10/05/2020 20:30

I really like both but think that Amira has a more obvious link to Arabic culture.

Millie272020 · 10/05/2020 19:35

Thank you everyone for your responses, I really appreciate it! :)

Serena. Amira is fine but more ordinary. Serena is not related to the Sirens of mythology and doesn’t sound the same.

babynamelover · 10/05/2020 02:11

Amira it's beautiful 😍

Greenmarmalade · 10/05/2020 01:41

Amira

LethargicButAwesome · 10/05/2020 01:40

Amira - beautiful

NeedToKnow101 · 10/05/2020 01:34

Serena makes me think serene, and Serena Williams, both of which (whom?) are wonderful.

POP7777777 · 10/05/2020 01:33

Amira. Just because it's so beautiful. Smile

NeedToKnow101 · 10/05/2020 01:32

I love them both.

binkyboinky · 10/05/2020 01:05

Amira. Serena is a bit middle-aged and makes me think of Serena Joy.

Ellmau · 10/05/2020 00:51

It doesn''t really, OP - in English the Sirens are pronounced like air raid sirens, with the emphasis on the first syllable rhyming with fire, while Serena is Suh-REE-nuh.

But both are lovely names. You could have one for the first name and one for the middle name.

Millie272020 · 09/05/2020 23:37

It sounds very similar to Sirena which does have some stories associated with mythology... I don’t know if this is a big deal though?

Amira is a name that I really like as well and it is nice to have a name linked to Arab culture. Serena is nice too because it is neutral.

bridgetreilly · 09/05/2020 22:54

Serena doesn't have anything to do with the mythological sirens.

peperethecat · 09/05/2020 22:50

But I remember your other threads and think Leila is a better crossover name in the UK, even if the meaning with your surname might sound a little funny in Arabic.

peperethecat · 09/05/2020 22:49

I like Amira. It's a nod to your daughter's cultural background without being too "out there" or difficult for people to spell or pronounce.

My brother in law's wife is from an Arabic background and we are a little surprised that they have given their son a name which doesn't even hint at that side of his culture.
