Thoughts on the name 'Drake'?

Basically as the title says.

DH really likes this name. I like it too, especially the nature connotation, but I know that it is more unusual.

I have never met a Drake, only know it from a TV show called 'Drake and Josh'.

What do you think of this name? Would you think it was a bit 'out there' if someone you knew named their child Drake?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love it

ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 08/05/2020 23:16

I think of either the rapper or Joeys character on days of our lives from friends (dr Drake Ramoray)

Emmagen · 08/05/2020 23:14

Huh, I think my brain is broken I thought of Sir Francis Drake before "duck" Confused

KoalasandRabbit · 08/05/2020 23:11

Duck, suspect would get teased.

whywhywhy6 · 08/05/2020 23:10

No.

GrumpyHoonMain · 08/05/2020 23:07

Too close to Dracula (Drake would be irrelevant to a child born now and his music probably deemed old fashioned)

EngagedAgain · 08/05/2020 23:04

No sorry, there's nothing nice about it at all.

Choctimeout · 08/05/2020 23:00

No.

My thought is no.

saraclara · 08/05/2020 22:58

Dr Drake Ramoray! That's the first thing that sprung to mind for me!

And me. I started laughing as soon as I read the OP!

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 08/05/2020 22:57

Dr Drake Ramoray here too. Also a song from Words and Pictures in the 1980’s - ‘I’m Francis Drake and I’m looking for a lake’

1forsorrow · 08/05/2020 22:55

Reminds me of Danger Man, TV series in the 60s. As part of the opening Patrick McGoohan would say, "Oh yes, my name is Drake, John Drake." The joke at the time was to say that line and then go "quack, quack."

Probably not many of us remember so won't be a problem. It is a fine name.

Londoner99 · 08/05/2020 22:50

Yep, also makes me think of Drake the singer/rapper, he sounds like he's stoned in all his songs 😬.

littlejalapeno · 08/05/2020 21:55

Hhhhmmmm what about Andre, Dre for short?

Rhodri · 08/05/2020 21:52

I'm 35 and never heard of the duck connection
You’ve never heard that a male duck is called a drake? I suppose you’ve also never heard that a male cow is a bull and a male sheep is a ram? Geez, and you weren’t even home schooled under lockdown 😂

NaturalCleaningParticles · 08/05/2020 21:46

Rapper or duck.

daytriptovulcan · 08/05/2020 21:40

Very talented R n b singer, but a bit of a creep around the young ladies. Don't do it.

LittleFoxKit · 08/05/2020 21:39

I thought of a dragon/wyvern type creature just a little smaller... but then I've been playing final fantasy again so...

ooooohbetty · 08/05/2020 21:37

I thought of the rapper and I'm a grandmother

LoKiMummy · 08/05/2020 21:36

It just reminds me of the rapper

donquixotedelamancha · 08/05/2020 21:35

"I have a Dracob"

Oh you do not.

Our school has had 3 Dracobs in 2 years. I think it's becoming more fashionable again.

Crabbo · 08/05/2020 21:35

I know one. I personally dislike it but it’s your baby so if you like it go ahead, it’s not weird or anything.

lucindalovescats · 08/05/2020 21:32

Sounds a bit chavvy , really sorry but its you're choice.

MarinaMarinara · 08/05/2020 21:30

In my my 30s (and so probably around the same age as you and as the majority of the parents of your baby’s future classmates) and my brain goes:

  • duck
  • Friends (Dr Drake Ramoray obvs)
  • rapper.

Definitely rethink OP!

paradisefalls · 08/05/2020 21:25

I'm 35 and never heard of the duck connection Confused I like drake, I'd call my child it.

Sittinonthefloor · 08/05/2020 21:21
