Yay or ney?
I should add surname starts with a H also.
So Hunter (middle name unknown) H
My partner had his heart set on it last pregnancy and I wasnt keen. This time round he is desperate again. I dont hate it. But I also dont love it. Partially because I love more traditional names (harry, oliver etc)
We currently have, George, Charlie (previous marriage) and Teddy

Opinions welcome, also middle name suggestions...

I think it's an ok name, my dd has always been a bit miffed at having alitereated name and surname though (HH)

Gosh, such vitriol. I have a Hunter Patrick who came after his brother who has a traditional biblical name and they go well.

Nothing wrong with it op but if it's not for you it's not for you.

I feel for you. I can't imagine calling my child a name I didn't like... I would draw up a list of alternatives... I think it should be a name you both like, or at the very least, can live with even if you don't love it.
Maybe have it as a middle name?? It's an unusual choice, I don't think you're being unreasonable.

What if he grows up loving animals? That would just be weird. I also agree with whoever said your other boys names are sort of soft, and classic, whereas Hunter is very hard and American, they do clash pretty badly.

WHY does your OH want to call him Hunter? Is it the macho thing, or does he know someone with that name that he admires? Doe he just like the sharp consonants?

Just to confirm he liked Teddy, it was just not Hunter and it so wasnt his first choice. So it's not that he doesnt like Teddy as a name...

I have suggested as a middle name, but as he has pointed out you dont call the middle name... he really has his heart set on it.

No I dont agree with hunting or anything like that, and I agree that it's a very strong name and suggests a particular personality and I think that's something else I worry about.

It's also very American sounding, and I'm just a traditional english type name person. I cant help it!

We couldnt agree for Teddy up till he was born so I cant see us agreeing on any other name. It would be a case of one of us backs down. He either takes a name he doesnt mind or I agree to Hunter.

He claims to not like ANY other name at all. Which i cant see is true. But obviously id like to agree ideally as we are both parents and should choose together. We agree on pretty much everything else, were just opposite on name preferences.

I have a friend with a 9 year old Hunter. There is an unfortunate word that rhymes with Hunt that has been an issue.

Lots of reasons why not
1, It doesn't fit with your other lovely more traditional family names. He'd stick out as the 'other' dc.

  1. The meaning = killer. Are you into hunting as a family?
  2. Combined with a Teddy, it's worse. Teddy + Hunter both have meanings with too many connotations when put together.
  3. You don't like it.

Actually l, could you agree on HHH? He gets his Triple H, but you both agree on something else for the first name?
Henry Hunter Harrison or whatever?

I like hunter but not good if they choose to be a vegetarian.

I don’t think you could get more opposite than Hunter and Teddy. If you feel really strongly about it you need to have a frank discussion with him, you can’t give your child a name you dislike (likewise, he shouldn’t have agreed to Teddy if he felt strongly!)

I agree with you in disliking Hunter. However I also think that Teddy as a full name is a bit silly. So probably not much help, as I don't agree with either one of you's taste.

@DennisTMenace yes.. he is. It's where he has got it from originally. If I do decide to go for it I'd be avoiding a H middle name! That is certain...

I have brought it up again I'm not keen. Letting it sink in for a bit before I approach the subject of other names. The problem is once you get to number 4 you've usually used up all your favourite names 😂

@Mucklowe - I think that's why I dont like it... it's almost like calling him killer...

Hunter is a dreadful name. Why would you want to name your son after someone who stalks then kills animals?

Is he a wrestling fan? All I can think of is Tripple H (Hunter Herst Helmsley) from the WWE. Particularly if you have an H middle name planned.

Hunter to me conjures up an image of a blonde child, long hair, muscular and slim, fair skinned, outdoorsy, carrys a spear fairly quiet. Grows up to be good at practical things.

Also, to add, your other names are lovely, and soft sounding names, especially Teddy. Teddy and Hunter sounds a bit... Strange. Teddy and Thomas would be lovely, as would James. Would he be happy with Hunter as a middle name? What about Ezra? Max? Harrison? They all have a similar feel to Hunter, but more appealing and would go nicer with your other boys names.
