Curious post - What names have you heard previously or if you heard them would make you go "wow" (in good way) or a name you'd think was simply sublime? Interested to hear your wow names

OP posts:

Someone on the rare A names thread mentioned Aspen and I thought 'wow, love that'. I do like nature names in general and wasn't allowed to use any so my girls have quite traditional names.

Musmerian · 06/05/2020 16:57

@YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree -me too! I’m greek so had good excuse to use Hero but DH wasn’t keen. Also love Hebe

DamnYankee · 06/05/2020 16:56

@Snufkins

OMG - isn't that just the worst? How do you even pronounce that?

Poor baby. He's a droid. Or named for one of Elon's spaceships he's planning on featuring in the movie he is planning with Tom Cruise.
Filmed.In.Space. Confused

Shopkinsdoll · 06/05/2020 16:43

Some of these names are very cutie for a toddler, but I think it’s cruel in later life.

MillicentMartha · 06/05/2020 16:43

I know a boy called Zephyr. I don’t think it would work for my blond DSes but he was dark and beautiful and it really suited him.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 06/05/2020 16:43

The only name I’ve heard that made my say ‘wow’ and not in a good way, was a baby girl with the name of her parents’ favourite football team’s home ground hyphenated after a very girly name.

Now my mind is endlessly speculating!

Lulu-Emirates?
Bianca-Loftusroad?

EyeShipMiceElf · 06/05/2020 16:41

At the local farm and a Mum called her daughter to go with her and her name was Ariadne. I actually said to the Mum, her name is beautiful.

I was introduced to 2 sisters, I already knew their brother and he has a run of the mill name. The conversation went :
My friend pointing to first sister: this is Bianca.
Me: ‘lovely to meet you Bianca.
Friend: (gestures to 2nd sister) and this is Manhattan.
Me: ‘Manhattan?!’

Lordfrontpaw · 06/05/2020 16:39

I had a tutor named edelweiss. That was a ‘wow’

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/05/2020 16:38

Dove Blush I think it's a very pretty and unusual name

PeanutDouglas · 06/05/2020 16:37

Balonze

Rhodri · 06/05/2020 16:36

Valentina and Seraphina are both lovely. A few months ago I met someone called Dove and thought that was very unusual. I had a boy though so couldn’t use any of those.

skinnyhotchoc · 06/05/2020 16:29

Stanley. Woman at playgroup 6 years ago and I was totally shocked. Probably because an old pedo I used to know went by that name and to me it's very much an old man's name. I'd be less shocked now

Lordfrontpaw · 06/05/2020 16:25

Tink was an insult when I was a child.

ravenmum · 06/05/2020 16:24

A pair of twins (in their 50s) called Ralf and Rolf.

Trying to think which of my friends' names sound especially nice, but tbh, if the friend is nice then the name automatically sounds nice, doesn't it?

I know a (the) Karol Kosmonaut. He changed his surname, the first name is Polish I think (he's German). The combination suits him.

Blueuggboots · 06/05/2020 16:24

I love Atticus.

SciFiWoman · 06/05/2020 16:18

Tinkerbell 😳
I thought the parent was joking... but no...
Poor little girl was called Tink for short, you’ve not lived til you’ve heard that bellowed across the playground at pick-up..!!

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 06/05/2020 16:15

Valentine is fab. Would never actually use it though!

For girls, Hero and Isolde. Equally I'd never dare use them!

SingleHandSue · 06/05/2020 16:14

The only name I’ve heard that made my say ‘wow’ and not in a good way, was a baby girl with the name of her parents’ favourite football team’s home ground hyphenated after a very girly name.

I won’t say it because I’m pretty sure she’d be the only person in the world with that name!

Lordfrontpaw · 06/05/2020 16:13

Ha Snufkins - I was about to say that (I believe it’s pronounced ‘myparentsarebothdaft’)

ANoiseAnnoys · 06/05/2020 16:12

I remember finding out Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts daughter was named Seraphina and thinking Wow, I’d love to be called that!

Snufkins · 06/05/2020 16:11

X Æ A-12

chunkyrun · 06/05/2020 16:05

Angel - wow how could anyone saddle a grown woman with such an awful name

Kyson - wow it sounds so much like dyson

Bane & bronson - wow what a pair of awful names, made even worse that there's two

Olivia, anabella, something - may, Lilly, grace, Harriet, Margot, Charlotte- wow you've really played it safe

RoomForMore · 06/05/2020 16:02

I think names like Valentina, Rafaela and Mila are so beautiful.

I live Matteo as well... and Luigi...

I'm not remotely Italian Grin DH is forrin (Mediterranean) but he likes plain English names so that's what our kids have!

paerol · 06/05/2020 15:58

@Shopkinsdoll I love Percy!

I'm not sure what I think are 'wow' names.
Depends what constitutes as 'wow'.

Wow that's awful.
Wow that's cute.
Wow that's brave.
Wow that's interesting.

I couldn't say!

fuckinghellthisshit · 06/05/2020 15:57

I have a friend who's real name is Cat Wild her sister is River Wild - they are really clever, creative and fun women and they make everyone go 'WOW".....
