Curious post - What names have you heard previously or if you heard them would make you go "wow" (in good way) or a name you'd think was simply sublime? Interested to hear your wow names

OP posts:

A leveret is the correct term for a baby hare.

Valentine/Valentina

August - there's a boy at school called August Distinguishedsurname and I think it's fantastic!

Brock

Before all the Bear type names were a thing my grandfather had a friend called Wolf, which I thought was amazing. Presumably he was called Wolfgang?

Aurelia

A name I heard recently on an elderly, very artistic lady - Corisande. That made me go wow. I’d never heard it before.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/05/2020 18:17

Valentine was a favourite until I read Mortal Instruments!

I am a teacher so often think Wow at names, but one that sticks in my memory is Meadow.

L0bstersLass · 06/05/2020 18:17

Hugo.

GreenTeaMug · 06/05/2020 18:16

Valentina is gorgeous.

I also LOVE Hebe. Hebe was on my list for DS1.

Fleamaker123 · 06/05/2020 18:15

@Parsley1234
Sacha Valentine... How beautiful

GreenTeaMug · 06/05/2020 18:13

My BF named her son Geoffrey. I was wow but not in a good way. Then I totally fell in love with it (and him because he is gorgeous). 2 years after Geoffrey (never shortened) was born my own DS1 was born. I named him a name that was similar in style / vintage to Geoffrey and people also were not wow in agood way. But then actually I have only had compliments with people saying how nice it is as it is so unusual nowadays. DS2 is top 20.

My name if I had a girl would be 'Leveret'. I love it. But it would be odd to have two fairly 'dull' boys names and then something a little out thereb like Leveret.

Iamblossom · 06/05/2020 18:04

I know an Evangeline which i think is beautiful .

Also Petrea. Trea for short. Love it.

toomanyplants · 06/05/2020 18:00

I have a Valentina. She's 18 now, and forever complimented on her name, it suits her totally and I've never shortened it, I thought she may have got Tina at school but she didn't. I love it still.

@Spied
Dakota is beautiful name.
I was pregnant in 2015 and the baby if girl would be Dakota.
Sadly it did not happen.

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 06/05/2020 17:53

Zara. What an amazing name! I wish I would be called that myself. My cousin has daughter and she is called that.

Teaandbiscuitsallday · 06/05/2020 17:41

Rufus! Ugghhh. Sounds like a dog.

Spirali · 06/05/2020 17:27

@SingleHandSue I’m going with Lily-Kop.
Might be outing but I have a relative who is an Evertonian and named his daughter Evie Toni Ann Blush

Lunawuna · 06/05/2020 17:19

Pommeline! I heard it and thought it was just gorgeous, but the parents and baby area Dutch so it probably would work better there than in the UK.

MillicentMartha · 06/05/2020 17:16

@MikeEhrmantraut Ashton-Kate? Really? Maybe East-Ville or Twerton for a boy?

Parsley1234 · 06/05/2020 17:14

My favourites at the moment are Sholto and Xavier nn Xavi
I have a Sacha Valentine

JKScot4 · 06/05/2020 17:12

@Lordfrontpaw
Think is still an insult, very unpleasant word
My wow was a wee girl called Italianhannah followed by very ordinary Scottish surname, I wonder if they had heard Italiana but didn’t know how to spell it.

MikeEhrmantraut · 06/05/2020 17:11

A few of these poor children knocking around, that should say!!

Spied · 06/05/2020 17:11

Dakota. I know many think it's low- brow but I think it's Wow in a cool way.

MikeEhrmantraut · 06/05/2020 17:10

@singleHandSue I know of some Ashton-Kates...then saw your latest post so seems there are a few of these poor. Hundred knocking about.

SingleHandSue · 06/05/2020 17:09

@GoatyGoatyMingeMinge

Think of a flower followed by where Scousers play in red

DamnYankee · 06/05/2020 17:07

I invented an emoji (not). Not even spelled right - and I'm a former English teacher!
Hmm Clearly not enough coffee this morning...

DamnYankee · 06/05/2020 17:05

Atticus
Jett (it's a family name, so play nice) Smile
Grant
Marguerite
Scarlett
Paloma

My DH's grandad's first name was Hamilton, which I like, and is my son's middle name, but his nickname was "Ham." [sceptical]

TotallyDevotedToYou · 06/05/2020 17:04

@saywhatwhatnow

I have lots of Valentines in my family tree. I wish I’d known when my now adult DS’s were born, I would have definitely used it.
