Hiya,

Thoughts on Auron for a boy? Pronounced Au-ren/Au-run x

I would probably pronounce it with an -on sounding ending, if I saw it written down. Could you change the spelling to Auren? I think that would more likely get people to pronounce it correctly.

Newjez · 06/05/2020 21:27

Isn't that a brand of washing detergent?

BackforGood · 06/05/2020 21:20

Every single day of his adult life he'll be telling people, 'No, not Aaron, 'Auron, spelled...' which is going to get really, really tiresome

This ^ presuming you are in an English speaking country.

YourVagesty · 06/05/2020 21:13

I like it. I also liked the suggestion of Oberon upthread.

evilharpy · 06/05/2020 21:08

Final Fantasy fans?

Vincent is the coolest character in a Final Fantasy game and I like the name.

Or Sephiroth? Grin

Mooncake2020 · 06/05/2020 21:06

With the S at the start it would sound like Soren, like the bread 😂

Ah I didn’t know it was Hebrew and I read a fair bit of Israeli lit so it must be fairly unusual! If you like Hebraic names what about Yonatan (my favorite)

CodenameVillanelle · 06/05/2020 21:00

Ok but that's what a lot of people would say

Mooncake2020 · 06/05/2020 20:57

@Smartanimal it's not pronounced ron at the end, doesn't like like Sauron

Mooncake2020 · 06/05/2020 20:55

@Viviennemary hardly it's a used Hebrew name 😂

Another contender for the MN daftest name badge.

MysteryFrog · 06/05/2020 18:54

Oren is similar, shorter sound at the start but less easy to confuse

Mucklowe · 06/05/2020 18:40

Dreadful. Sounds like the villain from a Tolkien book.

Smartanimal · 06/05/2020 18:33

Sauron....

Headbangersandmash · 06/05/2020 18:30

Auton is a baddie in Dr Who

Auron
CodenameVillanelle · 06/05/2020 18:30

I'd pronounce it Ow-Ron not Au-ren

AgeLikeWine · 06/05/2020 18:27

Auron sounds like a baddie in Dr Who, or alternatively a model of car. ‘I drive the new VW Auron’.

Spirali · 06/05/2020 18:20

@Mooncake2020 ooh yippee! Glad you like Tidus Grin ‘Ty’ or ‘Tide’ are the inevitable shortenings but I think they’re lovely Smile

QQQQQQ123 · 06/05/2020 14:19

No! He’ll be called Auron the moron at school!!

he totally will

unoeufisunoeuf1 · 06/05/2020 13:45

It sounds like a new model of hybrid car!

ADreamOfGood · 06/05/2020 13:40

Does it have a meaning? Like the golden one or something? It sounds like a 70s Sci-fi B movie character... Auron! Traveller from the stars!

123Dancewithme · 06/05/2020 12:20

I prefer Oren or Orrin

Mooncake2020 · 06/05/2020 12:16

Thanks everyone, much appreciated! It doesn't rhyme with moron, so don't think that would be an issue but can see Aaron being an issue. Will tell OH the Tidus suggestion thank you xx
