We are trying to narrow down our list of girls names. I would like something pretty, not in the top 10 as we live in London and there will likely be a couple in each class.

Open to other suggestions! It’s our first and I’m finding it difficult to pick a name. Did you have the name picked or have a couple of names and selected it once DD/DS arrived?

Ada Clementine
Hattie (Harriet) Wren
Etta Josephine
Mabel ...
Etta Sunday

Etta or Ada.

I like Iris & Daphne too.

Etta and Josephine are both lovely.

Maybe Dorothy? Or Joan/Joni?

Why do you think this is more likely in London? I'm also in London and am expecting that the top 10 names will actually be less common here than they are in, say, the home counties. I would expect there to be more "hipster" names and also more names that aren't "traditionally English", so the Amelias and Olivias will be a bit more diluted if that makes sense!

I love Ada, Etta and Mabel- that’s not massively helpful I know! I’m not a fan of Sunday as a middle name.

With all 4 of our DDs I have had a shortlist of my 3 top names and have picked once they’ve arrived. I find some names just fit better once you’ve seen your baby and tried saying the name out loud

I live in London with 8 month old, 4yo and 7yo. We know 6 ada’s and 5 etta’s and 1 Harriet. Etta was my second choice for my daughter but I’m so glad we didn’t as it’s super popular in young kids, so I’d go for one of the others which are lovely.

I only like Mabel and Esme (ezmay. The Ezmee pronunciation makes my teeth itch).
I can't grasp the hype with Etta. I think it's one of the worse harshest unfriendly names out there. However I'm very much in the minority.
It's definitely a mumsnet name, as they say.

My favourite is Ada, love it.
I also like Etta.
I think Sunday is a strange choice for a middle name, though.
I dislike Mabel, it seems popular but I don't know why.

pinkpinecone · 05/05/2020 12:06

Ada or Mabel would be my preference

Cordial11 · 05/05/2020 11:53
