We are considering Allegra for DD1.. I play piano and I feel that the meaning of joyful and happy is lovely along with the musical ties. What do you think of Allegra?

Quite a pretty name.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 15:58

I wouldn’t personally use it but that just comes down to individual taste. It’s pretty, known but still unique at least in this country, if you love the associated meanings especially I’d say go for it X

Lifeaback · 06/05/2020 15:37

It’s always been one of my favourite names but with no Italian or musical connections in our family it felt a pretentious choice to me so I vetoed.

I think it’s an absolutely beautiful and very classy name OP

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 06/05/2020 14:24

I would imagine you were either very posh, or trying to sound very posh. She will probably get Leggy at school no matter what you call her at home.

LetItGoHome · 06/05/2020 14:18

Sorry, I didn't explain very well. It's like a comic book, comedy, posh name. Not classy.

LetItGoHome · 06/05/2020 14:17

To be honest I don't like it. It doesn't sound classy to me, quite the opposite infact. Perhaps a bit like your trying to hard to be classy and achieving the opposite because of this.
But she is your child so go for it if you like it x

KillingSteve · 06/05/2020 14:13

Cadence seems to sound too American to me

Thanks. A music link would be lovely.

Doesn't Cecelia mean blind?

Cecelia?

Octavia is also nice and appropriate. Cadence or Cadenza. Viola.

Spied · 06/05/2020 14:03

I think it's a pretty name.
Could sound a bit pretentious depending on your circumstances I think thoughConfused

Panticles · 06/05/2020 13:58

Cecelia?

TheCanterburyWhales · 06/05/2020 13:54

It wouldn't be classy in Italy, sorry.

whichteaareyou · 06/05/2020 13:51

Love this name

SarahTTCx · 06/05/2020 13:23

Not a fan of Allegra, but I think thats just because to me it sounds very gruff and masculine and i'm a big fan of very stereotypically feminine names. It's not awful and if I met an adult Allegra I wouldn't think anything of it but for some reason to me it doesn't fit a child so it would take some growing into!

Ellmau · 06/05/2020 13:17

It’s lovely.

OnABeachSomewhere · 06/05/2020 12:31

I like it. Also Greta - like Allegretto?

Orphlids · 06/05/2020 12:23

I absolutely love it. Allegra sounds like a very self-assured, intelligent woman. I’d be excited (and maybe a tiny bit intimidated?) to be introduced to Allegra. Both classy and meaningful. Lovely for the daughter of a musician.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 05/05/2020 10:08

I like it.

If you are looking for a name that's meaningful to you, other people's opinions are pretty meaningless!

MentholChill · 05/05/2020 09:59

I like it 👍🏼

Ughmaybenot · 05/05/2020 09:58

I think it’s lovely and very classy. I think Allie would be the natural shortening for it, and she’ll probably get called that at school, so that’s worth considering.

peperethecat · 05/05/2020 09:55

I would just use full name

You might, but you can't control what others might do. Just something to bear in mind.

NameChange84 · 05/05/2020 09:51

It is classy and I would assume the parents were either musical or Italian or both.

KillingSteve · 05/05/2020 09:50

@peperethecat I think Allie would be the only way to go but I would just use full name

emmathedilemma · 05/05/2020 09:50

Sorry, I don't think it's classy at all. Also makes me think of those terrible Austin Allegro cars!

peperethecat · 05/05/2020 08:47

I like the meaning of it and I do think it sounds classy, but there's something about the sound of the word that doesn't quite do it for me.

You might want to consider possible nicknames as well. Ali? OK but then it's no longer very unusual and people will probably think it's short for Alexandra. Leggy? Not great.
