Bad idea?

Is it a bad idea to name my child (both first and middle name) after my favourite childhood film character? Ive always found the name beautiful and it means a lot to me, however I cant decide if thats too strange?Grin

I’ve never heard of the character so I say go for it.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 05/05/2020 10:58

I just think of Katie Hopkins when I hear the name India.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 05/05/2020 10:57

Middle name will never be used except on paperwork, so if you love it, use it.

AmelieTaylor · 05/05/2020 10:53

No, if you want to name her after a character from a film, with a 'proper' name, that's fine. It's not like it's Minnie Mouse'

I can't say I live either, but you didn't ask & she's not my baby!

I would use both if you like them. It's rare to say first & middle name together once you've told everyone anyway

If you've always wanted to do it, do it!

Spirali · 05/05/2020 10:47

India Opal sounds lovely! Go for it 🙂

Standrewsschool · 05/05/2020 07:35

I think that’s fine. Many people use films and entertainment as inspirations.

It won’t date her to a time and place like Kylie, Shania etc

funmummy48 · 05/05/2020 06:57

I’m quite judgey by nature when it comes to names, (sorry, I know it’s a flaw) but I think it’s pretty and you should go for it!

Mucklowe · 05/05/2020 06:47

Individually they're both ok names, but they just don't flow together as India Opal. There's an awkward gap between "a" and "O".

babynamelover · 05/05/2020 02:38

My daughter's first names are both from movies I gave them a family middle to honor Grandparents. This is something you could do also 😊.
I like India it's pretty. It's quite a lot with Opal but you don't often say together and if it has special meaning just do it 😃.

BackforGood · 05/05/2020 00:28

I don't think many people would recgonise the name as a character from a film.

I don't like the names particularly, but that is personal preference.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 05/05/2020 00:17

I love that film!! Everyone must watch it - it's a weepy though.

MikeUniformMike · 04/05/2020 20:13

Use it. If anyone comments "Because of Winn-Dixie" just say Yes!

I like Winnie but Wynn is a boy's name.

SnowdropFox · 04/05/2020 20:01

I think I prefer Opal to India but if you love it that way from the obscure film then go for it Smile

NoSauce · 04/05/2020 19:58

It’s lovely OP!

chunkyrun · 04/05/2020 19:55

I think it's a lovely name. I imagine the opal will probably get dropped.

peperethecat · 04/05/2020 19:48

Do I love it?

No.

Is it a really awful name that is going to make people judge your daughter and scar her for life?

Also no.

So if you love it, go for it.

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/05/2020 19:48

It’s lovely, definitely use it

Blursula · 04/05/2020 19:46

I think it’s fab

Cosyblanky · 04/05/2020 19:44

I would go with Opal as the first name, I think it's pretty. I actually think Starr is a great middle name for Opal! Alternatively something ordinary like Opal Louise, Opal Fleur, Opal Jane etc

JKScot4 · 04/05/2020 19:42

No, India is overdone and well a bit naff and Opal is an unattractive & dull stone.
How about Wynn?

Pinkblueberry · 04/05/2020 19:42

I’ve never heard of the film character so wouldn’t make any connection. Both are nice names. If you like it go for it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 04/05/2020 19:39

Although now I’ve read it as Oh-Pal (Nessa voice) and can’t unhear itBlush

Cbeebiesrehab · 04/05/2020 19:38

I wouldn’t know it was from a film so I think it’s fine. India is nice enough and I do actually really like Opal. I think I would rather Opal as a first name though.

GatoFofo · 04/05/2020 19:38

India’s nice, really really don’t like Opal, sorry.

dancemummy7 · 04/05/2020 19:37

Oh sorry, I don't know how I forgot to add the nameGrin

Its India Opal from the film Because of Winn-Dixie. Its jot the most well known film so I don't think most people would recognise it. Im contemplating just going with Opal as the forename and choosing an entirely different middle name. If I was to do this, any ideas for middle names to go with Opal?❤️
