how would you pronounce it? I know there's not totally a 'correct' pn because we're not in france but the name is french etc, but how would you and which do you prefer?

I say teen as in the fruit ut the song was about a clementine as in time.

HoyaFlower · 04/05/2020 01:45

With the last syllable in Caroline!

HoyaFlower · 04/05/2020 01:45

I pronounce it so the last syllable rhymes with Caroline

The fruit: teen
The name: tine

worstwitch18 · 03/05/2020 12:04

Tine but I am from NZ.

LouLouLoo · 02/05/2020 18:56

Tyne as in Tyne bridge.

daisypond · 02/05/2020 18:56

It has two pronunciations in British English.
The first - teen - is more usual but the other is fine too:

From Collins dictionary:
in British English
(ˈklɛmənˌtiːn , -ˌtaɪn)
NOUN
a citrus fruit thought to be either a variety of tangerine or a hybrid between a tangerine and sweet orange

Hoggleludo · 02/05/2020 18:54

Friends daughter is called clementine

And in teen.

Neednewwellies · 02/05/2020 18:54

@Shannith, but tine and tyne sound the same. Confused
I’d pronounce it teen as in Mrs Churchill.

raindrop83 · 02/05/2020 18:50

I'm so confused reading this, it seems people even pronounce Clementine the fruit differently! 🤣

Shannith · 02/05/2020 18:21

I mean it's teen not tine. Clementine - clue's in three spelling.

Shannith · 02/05/2020 18:20

It's tine. Though everyone pronounces it tyne which really surprised me.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/05/2020 18:15

Tyne not teen

SE13Mummy · 02/05/2020 18:14

Teen.

MsTSwift · 02/05/2020 18:13

Tine to rhyme with wine.

Had a tense conversation with another Clementine mother random friend of a friend who had gone for the teen pronunciation- we were never going to agree (or be friends for that matter)😁

toastofthetown · 02/05/2020 18:10

I would say -tine, although I do know a little -teen

sibbys · 02/05/2020 17:52

Teen

MrsMop1964 · 02/05/2020 17:01

like the song- to rhyme with wine

zscaler · 02/05/2020 16:55

Tine to rhyme with time

DramaAlpaca · 02/05/2020 14:34

-tyne for the name, -teen for the fruit.

WhereYouLeftIt · 02/05/2020 14:32

It's never occurred to me that it's a French name - I associate it too strongly with the song! So I'd pronounce it that way, Tyne.

MikeUniformMike · 02/05/2020 14:27

Tyne.

Whatsgoingonrightnow · 02/05/2020 14:16

Tine
