My daughter is called Skye. I love it Grin

MichelleOR84 · 03/05/2020 14:40

I love that name and I’m considering it myself but it really doesn’t go with our surname 😔

sibbys · 02/05/2020 17:55

Paw Patrol?

Peacefrog23 · 02/05/2020 16:22

I really like it and had it on my girls list but my husband didn't like it x

MikeUniformMike · 02/05/2020 16:04

I think it is ok, but it depends on the surname.

I don't like Skyler.

@87Callista, it's the name of a Scottish island.

Laslow · 02/05/2020 16:04

Nice

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 02/05/2020 16:02

Skye always reminds me of neighbours 😳 I also have a young cousin called sky... Its a boy 🤔 so it kinda puts me off

Pinkflipflop85 · 02/05/2020 15:53

Paw patrol

DramaAlpaca · 02/05/2020 15:50

I've always loved the name Skye, it's so pretty and romantic sounding and makes me think of the beautiful island.

Elieza · 02/05/2020 15:45

If youve watched Outlander, the theme song music is for a song (they’ve changed the words a bit) which refers to going “over the sea to Skye”.

It’s an island off the west coast of Scotland. Really beautiful scenery, mountains, seals, a castle. Worth a visit.

I went by ferry but nowadays there is a bridge. Many tourists visit and sometimes it causes problems during summer months as it’s a very popular destination and the roads are narrow and not many car parking areas. Guess there will be no problems like that this year if we are still in lockdown.

Marimari93 · 02/05/2020 15:38

I thought it meant Sky too. Hadn't heard of the Scottish place.

stormsurfer · 02/05/2020 13:52

It is very popular in Scotland and the trouble is people thinking it is Sky - a nature name - not after the place.

There are many other Scottish names I prefer and are less popular. And many other nature names that sound gentler.

BikeRunSki · 02/05/2020 13:52

I like it, but I spend a lot of time in Scotland and we had our honeymoon on Skye. I would (and have) only use a place name for my child if i had a connection to that place.

FartnissEverbeans · 02/05/2020 13:48

@87Callista The e on the end is due to it being the name of a Scottish island.

I absolutely love it but it’s pretty popular in Scotland

Elieza · 02/05/2020 12:59

I know.

Elieza · 02/05/2020 12:59

I knn Nn is a Skye and a Skylar. I keep wanting to put an R on the end of the latter name!

If you’re going to call a child after a Scottish island you may want to go there first (virtually during lockdown perhaps) and see if you like it.

87Callista · 02/05/2020 12:52

Cool nature name, I do wonder why people attach the e to the end. Is it to try and distinguish it from the sky sky?

It makes me think of Skyler from Breaking Bad.

I can't tell you exactly why but I find it edgier and slightly punky or something (maybe something wrong with me)

rootsonshow · 02/05/2020 11:55

love it

Ineedanewusername · 02/05/2020 11:54

Its popular in Scotland as are other island names Lewis, Harris and iona. Its an ok name. Wouldnt personally choose it.

Heismyopendoor · 02/05/2020 11:51

Love it :)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/05/2020 11:50

I like it but would never use it as it’s a little chavvy

Greenandcabbagelooking · 02/05/2020 11:50

I like it, it's a pretty name. Unless your other children are called Harris, Iona or Wight, or your surname is Ireland.

I prefer Skye to Sky or Skylar.

SnowdropFox · 02/05/2020 11:45

I think it goes through phases of being quite popular here in Scotland. Might just be kids I know though. At the moment Isla, Iona and Harris are the islands of choice.
I like Skye though, I've been a number of times and has some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen.

babynamelover · 02/05/2020 11:22

I'm not a huge fan. I prefer other nature names such as Summer, Hazel and Olive 😃.

Cbeebiesrehab · 02/05/2020 11:21

I can only think of Paw Patrol unfortunately. My daughter went through a stage of demanding I call her Skye🤦🏻‍♀️
