Love the name Charlotte and Lottie, can’t decide between them. But DH says if we went for Lottie it would be spelt Lotte. Is it pronounced the same??

YakkityYakYakYak · 01/05/2020 20:06

I would be unsure on pronunciation but would have guessed at LOT. My DD has a name that can be pronounced a couple of different ways, it drives me mad having to correct people. I would have picked another name had I foreseen the issue.

purplecorkheart · 01/05/2020 20:00

When I hear the name I think of the song from Phantom of the opera and pronoun its a lot ee

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/05/2020 19:58

Ah yes the previous danish post is better. 🇩🇰

Didicat · 01/05/2020 19:52

Lot I think, if I knew the name was lottie, I would add and I in automatically

Pinkblueberry · 01/05/2020 19:48

I’ve never seen Lottie spelt at Lotte. Lotte is quite an old fashioned German shortening of Charlotte - pronounced ‘Sharlottuh’, so Lotte is Lot-tuh. I would just spell it Lottie to avoid a lifetime of confusion.

MarthasGinYard · 01/05/2020 19:47

Lotte is Lott a

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/05/2020 19:45

In Danish its Lot-uh.

Palavah · 01/05/2020 19:44

'lotte' in German would be pronounced
LOH-tuh.

That's how I'd pronounce it here (in UK) if I saw it.

Lottie would be pronounced LOH-tee

ShyTown · 01/05/2020 19:42

Lotte is french for monkfish. Pronounced like Lot.

Karwomannghia · 01/05/2020 19:40

I’d say Lotte like Lottee and have a friend called Lotte spelt like that. It have never been a problem.

Peachbubble · 01/05/2020 19:34

I'd pronounce it Lotta, not Lottie.

MamaDane · 01/05/2020 19:23

I'm Danish and here Lotte is pronounced Lod-deh

MillicentMartha · 01/05/2020 19:22

ConnieDoodle · 01/05/2020 19:22

NaturalBornWoman · 01/05/2020 19:21

Lott-ah. As in the German eg Lieselotte.

I’ve known 2 people called Lieselotte and they’ve both been known as Lottie spelt Lotte. One German one Dutch. One old, one young.
