How do you pronounce Lotte?

Love the name Charlotte and Lottie, can’t decide between them. But DH says if we went for Lottie it would be spelt Lotte. Is it pronounced the same??

Lotte is pronounced Lott-a.

Lottie is a short form of Charlotte, and it's lovely. Go for Charlotte nn Lottie. Perfect!

You can spell it Lotte and pronounce it “Bob” if you want. Just introduce your child how you want/correct it how you want.

I would assume Lotte was pronounced as Lotta as it was German /Dutch/Scandinavian. Lotte pronounced as Lottie seems a bit thick, see also people wanting to name their daughter Ellie but spelling it Elle.

So I want to say names with 'e' on the end should never be pronounced as if it were an 'ee' sound in English - but then I remembered the Greek derived names like Zoe, Chloe and Penelope. But I would say they are the only exceptions.

Lottie is short for charlotte in the uk

I'd probably think just Lot at first but the spelling would suggest it was meant to be 2 syllables so probably Lot-tuh.

I think Charlotte nn. Lottie is a good choice.

It's a nickname. You can spell it and say it however you want.

However, if I saw Lotte written down I would assume you were German and pronounce it Lott-uh.

I really wasn't sure and can say that as someone who has never seen the name before I thought it would be pronounced Lot until I saw all the other comments.

I've heard of Lottie though and imagine people might get confused and pronounce a Lotte as Lottie if Lottie becomes more common.

As a name, I would automatically think ‘Lott-a’. As a word written down though, I automatically read it as ‘Lott-ay’ like the corporation Lotte is pronounced (though I guess that’s not so well known in Europe so not an issue!)

Lottie is short for Charlotte. Call her Charlotte and then you have the choice. Lotte would be a bit confusing here.

That makes no sense. If "lotte" were pronounced "lottie" Charlotte would be pronounced "Charlottie". It's not. Your husband is wrong.

It’s a lovely name but if you want Lottie (also a lovely nickname) then I would spell it Lottie.

I would hazard a guess and pronounce it lottie, but in my eyes it definitely says “lot” and I would think the spelling was ridiculous
