I rather like the name Cadence, but my DP assures me it’s... er... sort of the opposite of posh. Is it?

@Stinkyjellycat, oh , that’s interesting. Is she English?

Orphlids · 30/04/2020 17:48

Decadence is horrendous.

Are you taking this seriously?

Stinkyjellycat · 30/04/2020 17:47

I know an 80ish year old Cadence so it is used as a name.

Poodles03 · 30/04/2020 17:45

Decadence is horrendous.

It reminds me of the worst name I've ever heard in my life: Dinasti.

iklboo · 30/04/2020 17:37

Pluperfect? Conniption? Grin

Cupasoup76 · 30/04/2020 17:31

I know a forty something Australian named Cadence. She is very much not chavvy.

Orphlids · 30/04/2020 17:27

My uncle’s middle name is Thickness. Anything sounds pretty normal after that.

@speakout isn't one of Michael Jackksin's kids called Blanket?

Aethelthryth · 30/04/2020 17:17

it comes from the Latin for "to fall". Seems an odd thing to call a child

00100001 · 30/04/2020 17:16

@Poodles03

she;s trtyinh to say DH thinks it's chavvy, but doesn't to get shouted down.

MNers generally take the use of the word "chavvy" as a crime akin to murdering their nan

Orphlids · 30/04/2020 17:14

@Umnoway, thank you. Yes, I agree, it does sound American.

OP posts:
MilkNoSugars · 30/04/2020 17:13

I love the sound of Cadence and love nickname Cady but could never use it as my DH is a cyclist and talks about cadence in relation to stuff like bike pedals Grin

Umnoway · 30/04/2020 17:12

It definitely isn’t posh, it sounds American to me.

Orphlids · 30/04/2020 17:10

Ooh, Decadence! I think that’d be a lovely name! Might add that to my list, along with the rather classical sounding Obscenity.

OP posts:
campion · 30/04/2020 17:08

Bit close to decadence

roarfeckingroar · 30/04/2020 17:05

DP suggested Cadence for our baby. He is a musician, however. I like it.

MsTSwift · 30/04/2020 16:53

It’s a cycling term not a kids name

Poodles03 · 30/04/2020 16:51

''Tilt sounds like a great name for a cool hipster kid''.

Yes, with the middle name Pinball and confirmation name Table.

Tilt Pinball Table. OMG, I love it. It's so exotic.

FriedasCarLoad · 30/04/2020 16:47

She might get Interrupted a lot. And whether she turned out to be perfect or imperfect, you'd have to hope she'd never be plagual...Wink

SpinningTheMoon · 30/04/2020 16:45

I like it - the musical meaning would come to my mind before anything to do with running. People use Harmony and Melody as names too, so I don't see an issue. Unless the kid grows up to be tone-deaf Wink

mamansnet · 30/04/2020 16:45

@Orphlids definitely on a winner with Kaaydentz!

Although you could go one further and add some silent letters and random capitals, à la KhaayDentz?

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 30/04/2020 16:43

It's the little girl's name in Shallow Hal when they're volunteering in the hospital - how I remember that I have no idea. Blush

I quite like it but I don't think it's used enough as a name (in the UK) to have any particular class connotations.

speakout · 30/04/2020 16:42

CompleteBarstool I agree.

I know there is a fashion to move away from "names" to " things".
So names like Summer, River etc are popular.

So we could call children anything we like- Engine, Dough, Blanket, Internet, Trolley, Manifold, Compost, Reservoir, Appendix, Filament.

All legal.

Janaih · 30/04/2020 16:41

Tilt sounds like a great name for a cool hipster kid Grin

Janaih · 30/04/2020 16:40

I like it, it's no more unusual than many names on here. Cady for short. I would only avoid if you have a long surname, might be too much of a mouthful.
