My twin girls are nearly two weeks old and I cannot decide on their names! Other half likes Margot & Maeve? Opinions/suggestions please?

I think they are fine together. The names are quite different except for the initial letter.
There are many other ways to preserve their individuality
Congratulations. No problems in keeping family members from overwhelming you with visits but hope your husband is furloughed or working from home and available to support you

Congratulations .. I cringe a bit at matchy names .. The same first letters or rhyming etc seems twee , it's much better to give them individual names .. X

Both are lovely names but I'd go for different initials to simplify things as they get older. It wasn't deliberate but my DDs' initials are the reverse of each other and on occasions one has opened the other's bank statements because they were addressed to NA SE13 even though her initials are AN SE13.

If you want the names to connect, you could go for Margot and Pearl, Margot and Daisy or Margot and Polly? Or perhaps Maeve and Nora, Maeve and Erin or Maeve and Orla?

As Margot is a name that is becoming increasingly popular, maybe pair it with another that's similarly popular e.g. Felicity, Iris, Ada, Phoebe.

MikeUniformMike · 01/05/2020 11:32

I'd give them different initials.
They will be usually called The Twins.

babynamelover · 01/05/2020 05:34

Both beautiful but too close for siblings and twin Sisters for me.

What names do you like? Maybe you and hubby could choose one first name each?
Or I like the suggestion if using one for a first name and one for a middle.

debrasmith · 01/05/2020 05:13

Charlotte + Jessica are a person fave

Debra

Also like Maeve and Pearl together. Both one syllable and with the ae/ea look lovely written together.

Mish85 · 01/05/2020 05:03

Both beautiful names but a little similar I think. Love Margot the most. How about Margot and Pearl - a link of both being a variation of Margaret without sounding the same. Or Margot and Polly. Congratulations on your two little girls! How sweet 💕

123Dancewithme · 30/04/2020 22:38

Margot and Maeve are nice

LadyEloise · 30/04/2020 21:01

Margot is English/French - i think of Margot Fonteyn, the ballerina and Margot in The Good Life
Maeve is Irish - I think of Queen Maeve of Connacht. She was a warrior queen.

LotusClover · 30/04/2020 20:38

Love Maeve, really dislike Margot. I don't think they're too similar but I agree with @daisypond, they sound a bit twee together.

helpmum2003 · 30/04/2020 20:37

You could go for opposite initials?

Margot Alice
Alexandra Maeve

helpmum2003 · 30/04/2020 20:35

They're both lovely names but i wouldn't give them same initials. Maybe use one as a middle name?

I like @Anappleaday1 suggestions

Cbeebiesrehab · 30/04/2020 20:34

87Callista · 30/04/2020 20:31

Celia and Faith
Lucia and Florence
Clara and Rose
Frankie and Cassie
Jamie and Alex
Susan and Joan
Juliet and Janet
Ruby and Iona

daisypond · 30/04/2020 20:12

Too similar, both beginning with M. It’s twee. One or the other.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 30/04/2020 19:57

I absolutely love the name maeve, no chance of having any more kids but it would be top of my list if I had another girl, I also have Niamh so may be a bit biased towards style 😍
I also like margot, I wouldn't necessarily put the two together as they are a bit matchy. You said your husband likes those names, what do you like?

DDemelza · 30/04/2020 19:55

Margot is gorgeous.

Thefaceofboe · 30/04/2020 19:48

Whatsyourflava · 30/04/2020 18:11

But I'd stick with Margot and Maeve- so lovely

Whatsyourflava · 30/04/2020 18:08

Bubbletrouble43 · 30/04/2020 18:00

Oh and congratulations! The baby stage may be hectic but mine are 3 now and more fun than I could ever have imagined x

catinb0oots · 30/04/2020 17:56

Margot and Clara

Whatsyourflava · 30/04/2020 17:56

LOVE Margot and Maeve. I don't think they're too similar at all. Just have the same first letter
Seen as barely anything is sent by post now let alone in 15 years when they start getting post, I wouldn't factor that in
