Boys name...Rowan?

I see it as unisex. I knew a guy called Rowan in uni and it suited him. My mates called her daughter Rowan and that sounds good too.

The two reasons I think it's a good name are also the reasons we can't use it! Haha

Much prefer Bobby over Rowan/Roman/Rohan/Roan/RoNan myself. Bobby is lovely. Rowan is a girls name to me.

But regardless of all that it sounds like you’re both not sold on either name, maybe time to go back to drawing board. There’s lots of lovely names to pick from and you have plenty of time.

I know several Rowan’s born in the last year or so and they’ve all been boys. I think it is definitely turning into a masculine name.

DS is a Rowan. He's in his teens and likes it. I think it's lovely name and to my mind more male than female but works for both. I preferred it to Roan because I wanted a tree name.

I also like Bobby but prefer Robert.

It's a lovely name, for either a boy or a girl.

I would only ever think of it as a boys name but then the only Rowan I know (not personally!) is Rowan Atkinson.

It's a nice enough name.

I like it, it was in my list but i discounted as i had a lisp as a child and was worried ds might too and wouldn't be able to pronounce his name!

I like Bobby too but would use it as a nn for Robert personally.

I see Rowan as a girls name. I know five girls and one boy called Rowan.
I also know a boy spelt Rohan but pronounced the same as Rowan.

I prefer Bobby to rowan for a boy, sorry 🙏🏻

love Rowan! it's my favourite boys name, but DH vetoed it when I was pregnant, then we had a girl anyway

I think of it as a boys name as a colleagues son is named Rowan. I'd never have thought of it for a girl.

Love it. I think if it as more of a boys name. I know a little boy Rowan, and there's also Rowan Atkinson and Rowan Williams; don't know any female Rowans personally.

I see it very much as girls name sorry. Also too similar to RoMAN that every celeb under the sun seems to be using at the moment. Too ubiquitous. Will date.

I think it’s a lovely name, for both boys and girls. I think it’s one of the few unisex names I like. It sounds beautifully gentle. I can’t imagine a man named Rowan being unkind. Quite a sexy name for a grown man, I think, but sweet for a child. Fabulous choice.

My baby girl is called Rowan so I see it as a girl name but in reality it’s unisex and currently more boys than girls use it in England.
Having said that it is transitioning to becoming more of a girl name now in the US (I’ve seen a few threads on this on US baby name website Nameberry and from looking at the statistics) so the only caution is that same trend could happen over here, but who knows.
I picked the name so I obviously like it. The only thing I would say is that well meaning family are already calling her “Row” by accident, which I don’t like and which I’ve asked them not to. I don’t like the nickname but see it as inevitable once school starts if my family are already doing it then having to correct themselves. But you might like it!
Plus yeah the popularity of Roman (with an M) has been an issue as there’s 2 at the nursery and so I have to say “I’m calling about Ro_an... with a W not M”. It’s not ideal but it’s my own fault for not researching names beforehand as I would have anticipated it would have irritated me (but might not you!). A couple of years ago no one was called Roman Roan Rohan. But they’re all quite trendy now. But trendy is good I suppose. She’s got middle names to fall back on and I’ll choose criteria differently for the next baby.

It’s only in the past couple of years that Rowan as Roman have both rocketed into the top 100 chart.
Roman looks set to be a top 20 name by the time the 2020 statistics are released if you look at the graphs. It’s come from nowhere, like Arlo. Nice names though. nickname Rome is nicer than Row in my view.

Rowan Atkinson, definitely think boy when I hear the name. I only personally know Rowans that are boys. It’s a ‘R’ boy name that is becoming popular, probably the celebrity influence. Seems to be lots of boys called Rowan, Roman, Rory, Reuben, Riley, River, Ralph, Ronnie, Rafferty, Reggie Etc. You get the idea!
I personally wouldn’t chose it, but it’s your LB, go with what you want and love. But as you asked, no I definitely don’t see it as a girls name.

Rowan spelling seems feminine to me!!

I think it’s a fairly nice name. Sounds gentle and feminine to me, but that’s probably just because the Rowans I know are girls. They are often called “Row” (but don’t seem happy about that).

For me the problem would be that it doesn't feel special enough as it’s too similar to Roman and there’s 2 Roman’s in my small NCT group, not surprised to hear it’s fastest rising name. Then there’s Rohan, Roan, Ronan. Very trendy.

What are your other sons called? I notice your name is mum of boyS.
