"Wet" names?

Quite often I see people on here describing names as "wet". Sorry if I'm being stupid, but what is that supposed to mean?

My wet names are associated with wet people I’ve come across through work, and some of the kids friends. Everyone’s will be different.

Any male name that would be incongruous on a Phil Mitchell type. Actually this is not necessarily a bad thing!

Always thought Sophie is a wet name as too similar to soppy.

(I disagree on Robin - it can be shortened to "Rob" which is fine and it is only because of the Americanisation of "Robyn" for women that it has crossed over in that way - I can never read the name Christopher Robin and think it is prissy - just innocent childhood).

I do agree that my second DC has a wet name but his ‘full’ name is less wet than the nickname. So at least he has a choice! Plus he is an aggressive little bugger so if anyone takes the piss when he’s older I have a feeling they’ll only do it once 🤭

If you can’t imagine him chopping logs on a hillside with his top off, then before ravishing you in the heather, then the name might be a bit wet. by that basis, I'm renaming all my sons wet names. Axes are dangerous.

Robin, Toby, Elliot, Wilfred, Hugo are all nice names but a bit wet to me

These are just lists of slightly outdated middle class names. I don't see anything wet in them, or if they are wet, they will then go on to earn heaps in the City so I wouldn't feel too sorry for any of them.

When I think of wet names I think of weak, not wet as in wet behind the ears which is a whole different category.

I asked the exact same question when naming my sonGrin apparently he has a wet name too! (Jude)
I still don’t really understand the true definition but I guess it’s names that are feminine or ‘cutesy’

I think the names can be nice and have good associations but still be seen as 'wet'. I think if I was naming a son I would think about that.
