Please could you give your views on our girls list, your favourites and why? We seem to like them all which is the difficult part:

Theodora
Dorothy
Vivienne
Felicity
Imogen
Frances
Lara

Thanks

Theodora I really like, it gives the options for a slightly cooler nn as a teen/preteen and sounds good for wedding day/resume too. I'm not keen on nn Dora but due to thinking people may say does the explorer?

Dorothy I don't really like it but I like dotty or lottie for nn

Vivienne I quite like, sounds classy but not sure how I see it on all ages of a person

Felicity I love, delicate and girly, options for nn rather than just one but lovely also kept long

Imogen not keen sorry

Frances not keen and can't really see it on a person of all ages but it's a decent middle name

Laura personally not keen as first but like it as middle

I mention nn alot because my dd has a name you wouldn't shorten.. Usually however everyone does like nursery and I cannot stand certain ones.. I named her her full name and that's what she is called by us but I think whether it's children at some point in their life or others will always try to shorten them.
Loved violet for first name but decided against as I knew someone would call her vi!

Rubywhox · 01/05/2020 23:05

Also love Josephine

Rubywhox · 01/05/2020 23:04

I absolutely love Theodora and Dorothy!

87Callista · 01/05/2020 22:58

Lara is fave

Juliaplus4 · 01/05/2020 22:56

My favourite is Imogen.

GreenTulips · 30/04/2020 14:28

Why not shorten it to Thea instead

zscaler · 30/04/2020 10:46

Theodora - I think this is very pretty and I like the associates nicknames. It’s a bit more of a mouthful than some, but I still like it.

Dorothy - my absolute favourite name, and my pick too! I love it so much. It’s unusual without being out there, and both pretty and classical.

Vivienne - probably my least favourite on your list but still a nice name.

Felicity - gorgeous - lovely sound and meaning.

Imogen - slightly reminiscent of a Jilly Cooper heroine but very pretty

Frances - I love this, think it’s a really classical, gentle name.

Lara - not the most exciting but still a nice name. I have only ever known lovely Laras!

Really nice list!

Ginandplatonic · 30/04/2020 10:41

Sad That’s a shame, I love it. (And clearly the preference of a random internet stranger should be your main criterion in naming your child...Grin)

Helskitchen · 30/04/2020 10:39

@Ginandplatonic I suggested this to him too but he doesn't like the mixture of the two Confused he doesn't like the "fussiness" of the Dorothea/Theodora names

How about Dorothea as a sort of compromise between Dorothy and Theodora?

Helskitchen · 30/04/2020 10:23

Thanks all. They are still my favourites, I must admit. I am just going to try to think of some additions to the list that DH may like for us to come to an agreement. He loves Dorothy and doesn't want to consider any of the others. I like it too but it wasn't my top choice. We have some time thankfully Smile

@Helskitchen

Theodora- Yes!!
Dorothy- Don't recommend.
Vivienne- Not keen on the spelling, Vivian or Vivien I like better.
Felecity- don't like the name
Imogen- Love it!
Frances- It's ok
Lara- Not big on it

AlliKaneSon · 30/04/2020 01:28

I have to say Lara- it’s my daughter’s name!

Arseit · 30/04/2020 01:01

Theodora & Felicity - off the list then (wasn’t a fan of either tbh)
Dorothy- no, dull
Vivienne- love, Vivi is a great nn
Imogen - not keen
Frances - yes, like this, not common, don’t like Frankie nn
Lara- no, a bit bland
Josephine - dull
Alexandria - place name
Alexandra - underused; like it

Ginandplatonic · 30/04/2020 00:44

Well if you’re open to suggestions here are some more that I think have a similar feel:
Henrietta
Clementine
Helena
Caroline
Genevieve
Frederica

Helskitchen · 29/04/2020 15:39

Further discussions have added:

Alexandria / Alexandra
Josephine (female derivative of a male relative so that would be meaningful / DH not sold, but he never is 🙄)

@IndiaMay thank you for those suggestions. We can't use Verity, Lydia or Juliet as we have one of the first two and a Julie in our immediate family. Beautiful names though. DH won't consider Cecelia but I think it's gorgeous!

I dont love any of these but like a lot
Theodora - getting very popular. Shows up on threads here many times a day so not keen
Dorothy - like it, and baby Dotty could be cute
Vivienne - like. Disagree she would end up 'Viv' I know more nicknamed 'Vivvie'
Felicity - like
Imogen - like but too popular for me to ever use
Frances - have always liked but it's a marmite name for many
Lara - like

Some other ideas:
Lydia, Verity, Juliet, Celia, Anastasia

TheSkyWasDark · 29/04/2020 11:01

Theodora - far too prissy
Dorothy- same, fine for older ladies, naff for a baby
Vivienne - it's fine, nothing special
Felicity - I like it
Imogen - it always reminds me of a plate of stodgy potatoes
Frances - it's just so...nothing?
Lara - like

Helskitchen · 29/04/2020 10:58

@whatsyourflava I need you here to tell him the names are amazing and he should totally back me up because we love them, who why should he?! 😂

Helskitchen · 29/04/2020 10:55

Thank you all. DH has decided to take a different view on Theodora and Felicity, which were my two favourites. And they say women are the indecisive ones?! I hope he comes around to them again soon 🤞🏼

Theadora or Vivienne - likeVivi as a NN but it would depend on yr surname

Eg Theadora Campbell ok Theadora Thornbury not so

How about Verity or Beatrix / Beatrice

SE13Mummy · 28/04/2020 23:33

Dorothy (Dot, Ro, Thea, Dory even Fee)
Felicity (Lissy, Fizzy or Fliss)
Imogen (Mo or Jenny)

I love all three of these names, I'm not a fan of Lara or Vivienne.

bearfood · 28/04/2020 23:18

I'm biased as I have a Felicity. Her nickname is Flo, can't stand Flick!

Tillygetsit · 28/04/2020 23:16

Dorothy nn Dorrie is gorgeous.
