Millie

A few years ago now, I decided when the time comes and I have a baby I would call a girl Amelia and a boy Noah.
Just before I found out I was pregnant, I had a dream that I gave birth to a little girl and named her Connie.
I found out I was pregnant not long after. I knew I was having a little boy. I decided on Noah for a boy. But if my suspicions were wrong, I chose Matilda for a girl. It was confirmed I was having a boy and a few months later Noah was born.
Roll on a few years and I am expecting again.

This time I am really struggling with a girls name. My boys name is decided. I had posted so many threads and had a few good ideas, but still nothing feels like "the one". I have Daisy Matilda as one possible but I have been thinking back to Amelia......

I cannot use Matilda (used by a close friend) and I once adored Amelia, many years before Matilda.

So.... Just putting it out there. Do you think Millie would be a good compromise for someone who once loved Amelia and Matilda?

Thank you.

giggly, it's because it's so overused. There are billions of them. Once you see a name too many times, that's it, usually.

bridgetreilly · 28/04/2020 09:23

@giggly I would agree that it's similar to Molly, Maisy and Daisy. I just think they're all quite dull. ;)

giggly · 27/04/2020 22:59

Isn’t it funny that so many people think it’s a dull and boring name yet others think it’s lovely.
Personally I think it’s lovely in the same strain as Mollie, Maisie and Daisy. But you’ll get either yah or nay answers.
I’ve often wondered why what other people that are complete strangers think of a name you like. Surely the fact that you like it should be enough.
I mean there’s a mn who is calling her baby Ireland despite the overwhelming majority myself included thinking not such a good pickHmm

Thefaceofboe · 27/04/2020 22:47

Just call her Amelia. There’s plenty about and I’m sure no one will associate it with a missing limb

summersun7 · 27/04/2020 22:44

@Needtobepositive My first car was called Maisie so kind of puts me off the name.

Amelia is lovely. Millie is dull as dishwater.

Needtobepositive · 27/04/2020 22:43

We know an Emily who is known as Millie. What about Maisie / Maisy as an alternative?

mistermagpie · 27/04/2020 22:40

Millie is such a boring name. It's also what I think of as a 'cats name'.

My friend has one aged 4 and the only thing that I can say positively about, it is that's it's really easy for a child to learn to write it. It's just a bunch of lines!

Amelia is lovely, as is Amelie. I know one of each and neither are called Millie.

summersun7 · 27/04/2020 22:39

@bridgetreilly and @pilates I would use Connie as the given name not Constance.

Amelia is fine. Constance nn Connie is gorgeous. Millie is blah.

pilates · 27/04/2020 22:27

I prefer Constance (Connie) to Millie.

I really like Millie

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 27/04/2020 22:00

I know a number of Millies who are really Amelias. (And one who is a Millicent.)

thunderandsunshine01 · 27/04/2020 22:00

V honest opinion here. We called our DD Amelia. (Noah was on our boy shortlist) I think it’s a beautiful elegant name. Always envisioned a nickname not being established until she grew a fair bit older and even then I always hoped it would be Amy that would stick.

Moment DD was born I was inundated with “aww little Millie” and people completely discarding my corrections to Amelia. Gave up in the end so our now 7yr old goes by Millie. I hate the name Millie (sorry) and don’t think it’s anywhere in the same league as Amelia, which is really sad as now that’s my child’s name!

I would steer away from both Amelia and Millie as first names. I really love Daisy Matilda or Daisy Amelia though.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/04/2020 21:57

And Amelia is lovely name

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/04/2020 21:56

Millie is short for Amelia. So you can have Amelia nickname Millie

summersun7 · 27/04/2020 21:54

@Anappleaday1 Emilia sounds quite awkward to say, where as Amelia just rolls of the tongue. I think people would mishear as Amelia too. Sadly, I'm not really keen. Thank you anyway for suggesting.

@summersun7 Emilia is pronounced E-mee-li-ah, so like Amelia but a rather subtle em rather than am at the start.

twinkledag · 27/04/2020 21:41

What about Emiliana?

summersun7 · 27/04/2020 21:32

@Rainallnight Amelia doesn't seem well received on here as a name sadly..... too common, medical condition with missing limbs etc.

Chinks123 · 27/04/2020 21:13

Connie! We were going to use it had ds been a girl. I say we, dp hated it but I love it.

WindFlower92 · 27/04/2020 21:10

Millie can also be short for Camilla!

summersun7 · 27/04/2020 21:08

@Anappleaday1 May I just ask, how is Emilia pronounced? Is it similar to Emily? It looks rather confusing. As not Amelia but not Emily either? Sorry Confused

Anappleaday1 · 27/04/2020 21:02

I'm not keen on Millie, Amelia is much nicer imo. Or how about Emilia or Emmeline?
