Honest opinions of this name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/04/2020 19:07

Normal as in, easy for you English folk to say.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/04/2020 19:07

oh, and mines a perfectly normal name.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/04/2020 19:06

I have to say my name is "with a Y" as you can spell it with a Y or an IE.
(Y is much nicer imo, and they should be pronounced slightly differently, but no one does)

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 27/04/2020 19:00

@BuddleiaTime how fucking rude are you?
Just one question mark needed here too.

ploopsie · 27/04/2020 18:55

Why make life difficult for your children?

Why is giving your child an Irish name making their life difficult? I know Claire's & Clare's or Lucie's & Lucy's who have to spell their name.

Anoisagusaris · 27/04/2020 18:53

Door rhymes with oar, roar, more.

Poor is more like purr.

BrooHaHa · 27/04/2020 18:51

Aoife elephant.

As in, ee for elephant. That's all I can think of when I hear it.

Chattercino · 27/04/2020 18:51

Are you in any way Irish?

isabellerossignol · 27/04/2020 18:48

@isabellerossignol please tell me how you pronounce them or it's going to drive me insane trying to figure it out

In my accent door would rhyme with more or oar. And poor would rhyme with pure Smile

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/04/2020 18:46

My son is called Sue GrinGrinGrin

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 27/04/2020 18:34

Why make life difficult for your children?

It’s character building. My son is called Sue Wink

BuddleiaTime · 27/04/2020 18:31

So should everyone from different cultures living in England only use English names???

If they don't want to make like difficult for their children, yes. It's those with "strange" spelling that are the problem. 60 years of spelling it out is wearing when there are other lovely names out there.

Why make life difficult for your children?

Only one question mark needed.

Lazydaisydaydream · 27/04/2020 18:12

Ahh OK so poor like with two syllables. Thank you Grin I'll be able to sleep tonight now haha.

Alwaysundecided · 27/04/2020 18:09

Such a beautiful Irish name. I would be a bit wary due to the pronunciation issues over here but it shouldn't put you off if you really love it.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 27/04/2020 18:06

lazy door with a short o like in short. Poor with an oo sound like in ooze

HarrietM87 · 27/04/2020 18:05

@Lazydaisydaydream as an example, I’m from NI and door rhymes with roar, whereas poor sounds more like poo-er. If that makes sense...

Lazydaisydaydream · 27/04/2020 18:04

@isabellerossignol please tell me how you pronounce them or it's going to drive me insane trying to figure it out Grin I think my OH thinks I've gone mad just repeating door and poor to myself in as many accents as I can think of.

Umnoway · 27/04/2020 17:56

If you’re anywhere other than Ireland you’ll probably get lots of ‘how is that pronounced?’ which will get irritating both for you and for her when she gets older. I do like it though.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 27/04/2020 17:53

Love it.

Ee-fa

PotterHarryWitch · 27/04/2020 17:53

Before anyone tells me I know dont is not a word. I need coffee so bad.

SionnachRua · 27/04/2020 17:53

Ah yes Deer-dree, I'd forgotten about that. Sounds so wrong to my ear.

"The one called Neeve but spelt totally different" Grin Who gives a shite if someone doesn't know how to pronounce a name at first glance? I didn't know how to pronounce Manon, Anais or Sian the first time I saw them. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them.

isabellerossignol · 27/04/2020 17:52

But door and poor doggy rhyme don't they?!

Not even remotely Grin

I'm being facetious. I know that they do actually rhyme in some accents (just not in mine).

PotterHarryWitch · 27/04/2020 17:52

I meant *Dont! Just finished work so tired sorry

PotterHarryWitch · 27/04/2020 17:51

Ont like it. I'm in england and had never heard it until last year when this guy on my facebook had a baby with a lady who's Irish. Everytime I see it on their newsfeed I cant help but read it how its spelt which i know is wrong. I keep having to Google how to pronounce it.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 27/04/2020 17:49

Someone I knew I had a child with that name, no one knew how to pronounce it.

Well they did after they heard it the first time, right? Unless they had some hearing difficulties?
