Is Dorothy too old fashioned?

I absolutely love the name, my husband does too, and it’s one of the few girls’ names we really agree on. It also has a very meaningful family connection on both my side and his.

But is it too old fashioned? Will we be saddling her with a cumbersome, out if date name?

It’s lovely.

Some people are before the trend Wink

Single2catsand1daughter · 26/04/2020 10:47

One of my favourite names. Go for it.

Old fashioned names are making a massive comeback op. In my family this year there’s been a Martha, a Mabel and an Edith. Dorothy is an old fashioned but a lovely and perfectly acceptable name to use

Ahh I think it's lovely, a lot of those 'old fashioned' names are making a come back now anyway.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 26/04/2020 10:46

PS A lot of names some people might have considered old-fashioned a few years ago seem to be springing back up.

CheriLittlebottom · 26/04/2020 10:46

I love it. Definitely coming back, you'll be ahead of the curve!

Dot & Dottie are cute nicknames for when she's little, too.

Old names are in again, it’s a cycle. Dorothy is lovely, use it!

ofwarren · 26/04/2020 10:45

Lovely name. Go for it!

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 26/04/2020 10:44

Love it. I know of a 5 year old Dorothy. It really suits her.

Timeslikethese2020 · 26/04/2020 10:44

I don’t like it at all but it’s popular on here.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 26/04/2020 10:43

A friend of mine has a niece, aged nine, called Dorothy. Lovely name. Go for it.

AntiHop · 26/04/2020 10:42

I love it.

Dyra · 26/04/2020 10:38

I think it is old fashioned yes. I don't dislike the name though. It does allow for Dottie as a NN as well, which I oddly like (not usually a fan of cutesy nick names).

But don't let an internet stranger's opinion deter you. If you and your husband love it, and think it's the one, then go for it.

TenThousandSpoons0 · 26/04/2020 10:34

Cute name

daisypond · 26/04/2020 10:32

No. It’s good.
