Really struggling with girls names but the only one I keep coming back to is Nola, what are your thoughts?

It's okay, but for me it's a bit too much like a nickname rather than a full name in itself. I know someone called Shanolla who goes by Nola for short.

Mucklowe · 24/04/2020 11:49

I love it! I have an Aunt Nola who is in her late 60s. She was named after the Irish midwife who delivered her.

Treanor · 23/04/2020 16:10

There's two Nolas at my dd's primary school which I find odd as it isn't very popular. Both lovely girls so it has good connotations for me.

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2020 15:39

I like it.

LightACandleHoney · 23/04/2020 15:22

Yep it’s New Orleans to me too. I don’t think I could get past that, but I have lived in the southern United States and still have a lot of friends there. I would say that without connections/regular travel to the US, those connotations wouldn’t be so bas

RingaRosie · 23/04/2020 15:04

I say Noh-la, rather than No-la. Would others say it this way, too?

bridgetreilly · 23/04/2020 15:01

I prefer both Lola and Nuala.

Nola makes me think of New Orleans.

Louisesp82 · 23/04/2020 14:45

I like it!

ElphiasDoge · 23/04/2020 14:30

I know a Nolah. Hadn’t heard it before but think it’s quite nice now! A little different but not massively so.

Ash06 · 23/04/2020 14:29

Thank you everyone for your opinions. I actually found the name in a magazine, think I like it because I’ve not heard the name used often x

What about nova?

Astronica · 23/04/2020 14:11

I don't like it.

CreamWhitecakes · 23/04/2020 12:35

Don't like it at all

Whatsyourflava · 23/04/2020 12:29

Nora
Nina ?

WendyDarling888 · 23/04/2020 11:16

Insideallday I think your cousin is very lucky then. Lola is a lot more popular than Nola so I cannot see someone called Nola not being confused and miscalled Lola.

Insideallday · 23/04/2020 11:11

WendyDarling888. My cousin has never once had to correct people thinking her name is Lola.

emmathedilemma · 23/04/2020 11:10

Exactly my reaction @Elouera sounds like your granny's friend from Bingo!

WendyDarling888 · 23/04/2020 10:59

Awful (sorry). I find the 'No' sound at the beginning of a name jarring.

She will forever be correcting people thinking her name is Lola.

babynamelover · 23/04/2020 10:37

I love it. It's very close to my youngest name we had it on our list for #1.
I also like Finola and Fionnuala 😍

samandpoppysmummy · 23/04/2020 10:10

I also wondered, as soon as I saw the post, if you got the name from The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair :)

I think it's a pretty name, although I hadn't heard of it before reading the book.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 23/04/2020 10:07

I really like it.

happystory · 23/04/2020 10:03

I like it. I also know a Noa...

Elouera · 23/04/2020 10:00

I too would initially think its supposed to be Lola! She will be forever correcting people. Sorry, but I think of an 80yr old chain smoker! (No idea why, just associate it with very elderly women!)

millymaple · 23/04/2020 09:58

I think people will constantly assume they’ve misheard it, and I don’t really like it sorry.

Barkingfuckingdogs · 23/04/2020 09:58

I just think cola.
