what do people think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I gave my eldest a name that I like well enough but I don't love, largely because it was one of the few my husband and I agreed on. His reasons for not liking my favourite names were
quite sensible, really, and I think being open to compromise and constructive feedback is important because, as previous posters have said, it's your child that will be living with this name really, not you.

SueEllenMishke · 23/04/2020 21:11

Not great. Sorry

JKScot4 · 23/04/2020 21:11

Is it just Ireland or Republic of?

ClaraMumsnet · 23/04/2020 21:06

Hi, we've deleted personal attacks and trollhunting from this thread. Can we have peace and love, peace? Mumsnet is here to make parents' lives easier and this thread is not doing that. Please keep our Talk Guidelines in mind when posting and remember that there's a real person behind the screen.

  1. It's a name for a country not a person.
  2. You're from the UK, a country that has at least 1000 years of history of oppression, violence and war against Ireland.
  3. Don't do it. Just don't do it.
Shelley54 · 23/04/2020 21:03

You said you wanted to know what people's reactions will be. Now you know.

Ginger1982 · 23/04/2020 20:57

'If I liked the name England than yes I would call my child that.

"I like the name and 100% will call my child Ireland."

God help her 🙄

BendyLikeBeckham · 23/04/2020 20:21

no need to be so rude and defensive OP.

I think it is a hideous choice, and one your daughter will live to regret, not you.

Have you thought about Gaelen instead?

Or at least only use Ireland as a middle name.

Chelsie2020 · 23/04/2020 20:09

@JaneJeffer yes I asked but I I’m not going to let people make assumptions from thin air. I asked for opinions on the name? Not what I know about the country, that I’m being vacuous, not that I’m copying of a celeb I haven’t heard about.

Viviennemary · 23/04/2020 20:04

It would be ridiculous.

Well now you know what reaction to expect because pretty much everyone on here has said "don't do it" and you have seen some very open truthful opinions. Your own friends and family may hold back a bit, but just know that this is what they will be thinking.

SliAnCroix · 23/04/2020 19:29

@june2007 good one, Brexit is more on trend of course.

giggly · 23/04/2020 19:29

Oops just read your update op. There’s your answer when you tell people . They’ll think your a knob.

Greybutterfly · 23/04/2020 19:28

I thought this was a joke but it’s not.
What would you say when people ask the question why did you name your child Ireland?
What connection do you have to Ireland?
This will happen every time the child is introduced

giggly · 23/04/2020 19:27

No just no. I know a London as well and think it’s stupid although when I met the “oh we are so different” parents I just though what a pair of knobs.
Honestly just go for a normal name like everyone else. Don’t be a knob.

missmouse101 · 23/04/2020 19:26

It's awful.

mitsyblue · 23/04/2020 19:23

SoftBlocks · 23/04/2020 19:17

june2007 · 23/04/2020 19:12

JaneJeffer · 23/04/2020 19:08
