What are your thoughts on Viola and how do you pronounce it?

Do you prefer Viola Lucy or Viola Emily

I like it OP.

Seems a little try-hard though.

Ellmau · 23/04/2020 09:07

Lovely.

I prefer Viola Lucy.

MikeUniformMike · 23/04/2020 08:36

Vie-OH-la
Vee-Oh-la
Vie Uh-luh
Viler
Veeo-la

MilkNoSugars · 23/04/2020 08:14

Viola is a lovely name

I'd pronounce it vye - ola (to rhyme with high).

Megan2018 · 23/04/2020 08:12

Love it

I pronounce Vi to rhyme with High

I like Viola Emily

SnowdropFox · 23/04/2020 08:11

I know a little Viola. Its Vi (high) ola for her. Her mum describes it as Vi-Ola after the flower rather than Vee-Ola after the instrument.
I think it's a beautiful underused flowername.
I prefer Viola Emily myself.

Bumfuzzled · 22/04/2020 12:07

It’s a lovely name. If you work hard enough you can turn pretty much any name into something less appealing!

I like Viola Emily but either is nice.

60sPony · 22/04/2020 12:07

As long as if she has a brother he is called Sebastian! Sweet unusual name - instantly recognisable as Shakespearean if you like that kind of thing.

Jamiladodger · 22/04/2020 12:03

Oh no, I'm not. I thought everyone had gone for Lucy (quarantine brain).

Jamiladodger · 22/04/2020 12:02

I'm possibly the odd one out because I much prefer Viola Emily.
Emily is such a beautiful name.
Best wishes

CaffiSaliMali · 22/04/2020 11:57

I would pronounce it Viler, like Viola from Twelfth Night, my favourite Shakespeare play.

I really like it. 10 years ago my fantasy girl twins were Viola and Margot.

mymoonmyman2020 · 22/04/2020 11:55

Lovely name. I think Viola Lucy sounds best.

87Callista · 22/04/2020 11:50

I would pronounce it the same as Viola Davis name is pronounced so vy-ola.

I like the name. Viola Lucy is gorgeous, I think I prefer Lucy Viola though.

AdaColeman · 22/04/2020 11:12

It’s very pretty. I’d pronounce it VIola, as in the Shakespeare play. I think Viola Lucy works best and is just lovely.

victoria0132 · 22/04/2020 11:09

Lovely name, associate it with Shakespeare not anything else!

user1493494961 · 22/04/2020 11:04

Viola Emily is lovely. I would pronounce Vye to rhyme with high and my first thought was Shakespeare not vegan cheese or viagra.

Whatsyourflava · 22/04/2020 11:00

I like it and had it on my list but now I see it as a mixture of vagina viagra and areola . I still quite like it but wouldn’t use because of all the pronunciation issues

louise5754 · 22/04/2020 10:58

@LochJessMonster ah yes that's the one. Ok.

daisypond · 22/04/2020 10:47

The stress goes on the Vye at the start, so it can sound a bit like viler. Just a thought.

LochJessMonster · 22/04/2020 10:45

Literally every name can sound like something else if you try hard enough.
Omg ‘Ben’ sounds like ‘Bin’ Shock

No one is going to make the connection between Viola and Viagra ffs

limpbizkit · 22/04/2020 10:42

Or a brand of cleaning product

LochJessMonster · 22/04/2020 10:41

I like Viola, very pretty.
(Vi- pronounced like high)

The waste company is Veolia is pronounced ‘Vee-oh-lee-ah’

limpbizkit · 22/04/2020 10:41

Nah. Sounds like viagra

NailsNeedDoing · 22/04/2020 10:40

It’s a pretty name, but it made me think of that vegan brand of cheese.

daisypond · 22/04/2020 10:38

Viola like the Shakespeare character, the Latin for Violet. Not like the instrument. It’s nice. But I think it doesn’t go with either Lucy or Emily. It’s the repeating L sounds that make it clunky.
